why do you poutine eating, inbred, illiterate frogs post here when your team loses again to the mighty Blue&White?
The Mighty Blue and White? The 2nd to last Blue and White? The 16 points out of first place Blue and White?

You should check your facts. There are almost as many poutine eaters in Trawna and there certainly is more in-breeding.

Seriously, even the CBC is realizing that keeping the Laffs on TV isn't good for ratings. Watch for more Sens and Habs games.

And with the Mighty Blue and White unable to trade any of their assets (only Sundin and Kaberle), they'll be this bad next year also.

Well at least it's now official. It was unofficial after the 11th game when the Losers had 8 at home and only won 3.

Many have said that the Laffs are over paid. Well at least they only have to play 82 games to "earn" their money. 16 teams will have to play at least 86. Some will play 100 or more.

Add One More Year ...

Last year at this time, I posted the following:

Here we are, one year later ... and it is most appropriate that I modify my original post to:

Losers
Even
After
Forty-one
Seasons

Something tells me that I'll be changing this to "Forty-two" same time next year.

Maclean's Magazine – Why The Leafs Stink

The Front Page and the lead articles of the April 14, 2008 edition of the weekly news magazine Maclean's says it all: "Why The Leafs Stink – Building A Chronic Loser Is Harder Than You Think".

You have a choice:

1) You can read all these articles in Maclean's:

Why the Leafs stink – It's not bad luck. It's not bad karma. What it takes to build a chronic loser: http://www.macleans.ca/canada/national/article.jsp?content=20080402_25296_25296

The numbers game – Breaking down 41 years of Maple Leafs futility: http://www.macleans.ca/article.jsp?content=20080404_101031_1756

Tallying it all up – From ill-advised draft picks to bad coaches, Macleans.ca breaks down the reasons the Maple Leafs stink: http://www.macleans.ca/article.jsp?content=20080404_170916_5580

On second thought... – Maple Leafs' general managers have authored some of the most disastrous trades in NHL history: http://www.macleans.ca/article.jsp?content=20080404_125119_6064

OR

2) You can just read this 4-line summary:

Losers
Even
After
Forty-one
Seasons

Enjoy the reading.

ain't it ironic that this article is published:

...only after Ottawa lost game 1 and Calgary lost game 2...

last week, CBC said that there was no 1 Canada's team... it was divisional.

Best of luck with your Habs.

Sincerely,

a Pens fan.

The More Things Change, The More They Remain The Same

The Maple Laughs may have terminated their coach yesterday ... but that won't change a thing. Next year at this time, at the end of the 2008-2009 NHL Season, the team will still be:

Losers
Even
After
Forty-two
Seasons

This is the Maple Laughs:

Uneven performance
Bad trades
Questionable free-agent signings
Slow improvement of young players
Dismissal of general manager
Dismissal of coach
Dismissal of assistant coach
1967 …

I think MLSE just realized that if the Leafs make the playoffs, they can make so much more money.

They need to hire someone immediately. There is the upcoming draft and free agency will be here before you know it.

It will probably make little difference for the upcoming year but I believe there is no time like the present. I haven't even been alive for when the Leafs won the Stanley Cup last. I lived through the Ballard years so from 1967-1990 was a complete write off as far as I'm concerned. This man was a complete idiot. Nothing more. They had a good couple of playoff runs in 93 and 94. Basically, what I am saying is that the Leafs should have won the Cup anytime after 1990. At least once. They could have "bought" the Cup if ownership wasn't so cheap. Heaven knows their track record when it comes to drafting players.

Now with the salary cap in place, it will be that much more difficult.

just a slight disagreement with you, Layerman

...I don't think the Leafs were ever cheap after the Ballard era...they just had no idea what to spend their cash on...and actually I think the 2002 team would have made a better showing in the Finals than the Hurricanes did that year ( was that team led by the departed Leafs coach Paul Maurice??)

..other than that...I agree with you

There were many free agents from 1990 until now so I must dispute the claim that they did not know were to spend there money. There was too much of a power struggle since shortly after Stavro was no longer the majority owner.
It's too bad they did not have an owner like Stavro for longer as he let the hockey operations run things the way they are supposed to.

Like I said before, bring in someone now to regain complete control of the hockey operations without outside interference. Basically, ownership says this is the amount you have to spend and let's see a successful hockey club on the ice. I think that's what they will do now. Ownership has done this with Colangelo and the GM can do whatever he wants withing reason of course.

The Leafs could have made a better showing that Carolina but the Leafs were badly outplayed. Carolina was playing better hocket at the time. I went to each playoff game during those playoffs.

Well Layerman...

the last few years certainly have nothing to do with money...they had 1/2 the cap tied up in that lame assed defense...what a lame brained concept that was by JFJ...build from the defense out...and the no trade clauses....Christ, a team should only have one guy...maybe....on a no trade....not 5. So much shit to clean up in TO..a team with no captain, no coach and no GM.....looks like we could be waiting until the next decade for them to make the playoffs...
