the last few years certainly have nothing to do with money...they had 1/2 the cap tied up in that lame assed defense...what a lame brained concept that was by JFJ...build from the defense out...and the no trade clauses....Christ, a team should only have one guy...maybe....on a no trade....not 5. So much shit to clean up in TO..a team with no captain, no coach and no GM.....looks like we could be waiting until the next decade for them to make the playoffs...

I do agree with you that they have spent money the last few years but it was for all the wrong reasons. Tampa would not have offered Kubina 5 million per year for 4 years. McCabe is another story that I do not wish to discuss. He is simply overpaid.

It would have helped if Toskala played at the beginning of the year instead of starting to playing Raycroft, then the Leafs might have made the playoffs. Maurice was in a tough position since JFJ signed Rayroft and obviously did not want to upset the boss. Toskala was signed as the number one goaltender making number one golatender money.
Raycroft should have been traded since he did start the year and played so many games until Toskala was finally given the lion's share of the duties.

The salary cap has made things interesting.

Montreal beat Boston eight times during the regular season. If Boston had beaten them each time then Montreal wouldn't have made the playoffs.

The Leafs need a GM who can make things happen. If this can be done, they might be able to climb back to respectability sooner rather than later.

BTW, Its lawyerman, not layerman.

The Maple Laughs may have terminated their coach yesterday ... but that won't change a thing. Next year at this time, at the end of the 2008-2009 NHL Season, the team will still be:

This is the Maple Laughs:

Uneven performance
Bad trades
Questionable free-agent signings
Slow improvement of young players
Dismissal of general manager
Dismissal of coach
Dismissal of assistant coach

When will you Pepsi drinking, Jos. Louis eating, frog pea soupers figure it out? Montreal is no closer to a Stanly Cup than Toronto is – both the Leafs and Hab-nots are playing golf right now!

It’s pretty obvious that Habs fans from Montreal have an inferiority complex about the Leafs and Toronto – which shouldn’t be too surprising.

Montreal is a city in steep decline. Over the past 30 years, dozens of corporate headquarters have left for English-speaking Canada. Even the Bank of Montreal is now headquartered in Toronto. The exodus has left downtown Montreal filled with half-empty buildings. There are also boarded up theaters and shops, some for sale, some for rent, clear signs of a city in crisis. They’re also boarding up shops when Montreal hockey fans riot, rampage, loot and set police cars on fire – even the Montreal police have to rely on help from the OPP and the RCMP!

Unemployment is higher than any other large city in Canada. Habs fans have no jobs and are a bunch of bums– no wonder Habs fans are jealous of Leaf fans – at least we have jobs and pay taxes. Many Montreal Hab-not fans are forced to take their meals at glorified soup kitchens like the one called Restopop, located in the basement of a church. You poutine eating inbreds are jealous of Toronto’s financial might as the economic capital of Canada and the center of the hockey universe.

Its always great when an adult has the maturity of a 4 year old, and turns a sporting event.... a sporting event..... based on two sporting franchises... into a hateful diatribe going far beyond the realms of sport. Get some perspective.

Look who decided to show up.....Les "Poutine" Habitants.

Do you realize if Florida didn't lose in the last 3 minutes last night, your HABS wouldn't even be in the playoff picture today.

Hey Poutine Nation: The Leafs were not expected to do anything this season - it's a rebuiding year, no Sundin, $10M under the cap and sellers at the deadline. Your glorious hab-nots ere expected to go deep, with all this bullshit about the 100th season. At this rate, they wont even even make the playoffs, or if they sneak in, Boston will take it in 4 straight!

Another Season has Come And Gone for the Maple Laughs

Since the NHL Lockout and for a fourth straight season, the Toronto Maple Laughs will be watching the NHL Playoffs from the sidelines.

The Maple Laughs have ended the 2008-09 NHL Regular Season with this embarrassing record:

Position: 24
Wins: 34
Losses: 35
OT Losses: 13
Points: 81
Goals For: 250
Goals Against: 293

1967 … it has now been 42 years since Toronto has last won the Stanley Cup … how appropriate and how so relevant is the name "Leafs":

Losers

Forty-Two

But did they finish ahead of the Sens?

Their advertising slogan for next year was going to be "but we weren't as bad as Ottawa."
