It would have helped if Toskala played at the beginning of the year instead of starting to playing Raycroft, then the Leafs might have made the playoffs. Maurice was in a tough position since JFJ signed Rayroft and obviously did not want to upset the boss. Toskala was signed as the number one goaltender making number one golatender money.
Raycroft should have been traded since he did start the year and played so many games until Toskala was finally given the lion's share of the duties.
The salary cap has made things interesting.
Montreal beat Boston eight times during the regular season. If Boston had beaten them each time then Montreal wouldn't have made the playoffs.
The Leafs need a GM who can make things happen. If this can be done, they might be able to climb back to respectability sooner rather than later.
BTW, Its lawyerman, not layerman.
I do agree with you that they have spent money the last few years but it was for all the wrong reasons. Tampa would not have offered Kubina 5 million per year for 4 years. McCabe is another story that I do not wish to discuss. He is simply overpaid.new2game said:the last few years certainly have nothing to do with money...they had 1/2 the cap tied up in that lame assed defense...what a lame brained concept that was by JFJ...build from the defense out...and the no trade clauses....Christ, a team should only have one guy...maybe....on a no trade....not 5. So much shit to clean up in TO..a team with no captain, no coach and no GM.....looks like we could be waiting until the next decade for them to make the playoffs...
