Here's an interesting stat. Domi leads the Leafs in penalty minutes with 67. Connor Bedard has 62. He would be second on the Leafs. He has more penalty minutes than his teammates Bertuzzi and Foligno.

It was nice to see an original 12 matchup.
Speaking of LA vs Toronto here's Gretzky's high stick on Gilmour again.
Prior to this play Glenn Anderson was called for roughing with 12 seconds remaining in the 3rd period in a tied game. So the infamous high stick was in overtime while Leafs were killing a penalty. LA, Toronto, Montreal were all 3rd in their respective Divisions. All the favourites were knocked out.

Nice hair, though.

According to wiki:
a "high stick" is defined as a stick held above the height of its holder's shoulders.
Matthews is taller than Marner so there you have it.

The Leafs gained a pt on Florida tonight. However, the problem is that Tampa has won 4 games in a row. The final 8 games of the season, should be very interesting. It would be nice to see the Leafs finish first in the Atlantic division.

If the Leafs could pull this off, they would most likely play Ottawa in the first round of the playoffs.
I'm not sure that would be a better thing. If Florida limps into the playoffs(4-5-1 in their last 10) it might be better to play them with the Leafs having home ice advantage.

The Leafs wanted Schenn rather than Laughton at the trade deadline. Since then the Blues have won 10 straight. When the Blues won the cup in 2019 under Berube they were in last place Jan 1st. They made the coaching change mid season in November. Binnington came alive and they made a surge. They were the hottest team to end the season winning 8 of their last 10. This season they had a terrible start. All but counted out for the playoffs. They made a coaching change mid season in November bringing in Jim Montgomery.
Binnington is still their goalie and Schenn is still on the team.

Schenn is bigger than Laughton. Hits more, can fight. Scores at a higher rate both goals and assists. Better at face- offs. Has cup winning pedigree. Is a natural center. Interesting Laughton is listed as a left winger in tsn.ca
Ultimately Schenn wasn't available for trade but Berube knew what he wanted.

Leafs got a big break with Barkov not playing. From that standpoint it was a must win since it would not have been a good look. The core 5 forwards did their thing and provided the offense. Bonus they won it in regulation. No loser point for Florida and they're now on par with TB for regulation wins the first tie breaker. The proverbial 4 pt game.

Which is why the NHL doesn't want to go to the 3pts for a regulation win system, 3 points for every regulation win would make the top team look like they are way ahead in the standings. The current 2pt system is more equal to parity.

It's not a 2 pt system. An OT game is 3 pts.
