Glad to see the Leafs beat the Sabres 2:1 in OT. In the last 8 times these 2 teams played, the Sabres won 6 times and the Leafs won twice. Matthews scored the winning goal in OT assisted by Marner. The Mathews -Marner partnership always does wonders.

Once again, the playoff-bound Toronto Maple Leafs have rented a useful depth defenceman with Joel Edmundson looking to provide some snarl, snot, grit and gumption to the blue line.
I don't care if we lose this game badly, Leafs should just run Marchant all night and get under his skin. Take all the penalties you need. Send a message for round 1.
Leafs acquired 6'6" prospect Cade Webber. Dubas got us plenty of small and skilled, Brad is filling the void that is a lack of size and toughness.

The game was meaningless as in what it does in the standings, the two teams are locked to meet in the 1st round. I'm glad the Leafs didn't get pushed over physically, that's the message sent, and The rat turtles again. Anything can happen once the playoffs start. It's a new season, the regular season is out the door.

Not a Leaf yet, they still have to sign him. He’s already 23 and most scouts are predicting he’ll strictly be a depth player on the Marlies or the Growlers.

I'm not worried about one meaningless game. The playoffs will be a different story mark my words.
Concur, regular season is not the playoffs. Hence the playoff teams adding players. Especially Vegas.
President Trophy winners have lost in the first round. Boston last season and TB in 2019.
Florida also won the Presidents Trohphy in 2022 and were swept 4 - 0 in the 2nd round.
What is a good sign for last nights game is Domi picking fights with Marchand and McAvoy and Bert initiating his fight.
Unlike seasons past where Leafs would forfeit the game without a wimper. Florida is notorious for exacting a pound of flesh and we all know how effective that can be.
This was also Leafs 2nd of back to back. They don't play games in the playoffs where one team plays back to back and the other team doesn't. Leafs have had great regular seasons in the past and those seasons were considered epic failures.
Marchand injured another Leaf last night with his patented sneaky dirty play that looks legit.
When Knies comes back will he be the same after that head shot.

What the loss did accomplish was keep Boston close to Florida so for those who like to shout "we want Florida" you may get your wish. Leafs are 5th in the Eastern Conference ranked by pts per game. A 1 to 8 ranking would have them play 4th place Carolina. Instead they're likely playing either Florida or Boston. Carolina and Toronto both have 80 pts. Carolina instead gets to play Flyers who are currently 3rd in the Metro or even NYI who has a -14 goal differential.
For those who think regular season means something Vegas could potentially finish 2nd wild card and play Vancouver. Vegas is sitting out Stone and others and claiming they are injured to load up on players for the playoffs. That's an "upset" waiting to happen. Kipper thinks Leafs should have sat out Tavares and claim he's injured and activate him for the playoffs. It'll give him ample time to rest as well. That's not a bad plan. I suppose the regular season means something to teams like Buffalo who hasn't made the playoffs in 10 plus years.

i thought NYLANDER should have been first star. guess i was watching a different game.
It was Tkachuk last year in round one of the playoffs after being down 3-1 to Boston. He said to his team "no puck" meaning that that they are going hit the Bruins hard physicaly and it worked.
Probably more so the goaltending. Alex Lyon played the first 4 games for Florida and he had a 3.63 GAA and .888 save %.
Imagine having Samsonov level goaltending he provided earlier in the year. They switched to Bobrovsky and we all know how he played.
Leafs acquired Connor Dewar from the Wild to help the Leafs in the PK. I think the Nylander PK experiment is over.
