Samsonov is in his contract year. So not surprisingly he has played great in every game he started ... not
Bertuzzi is also in his contract year. 1 goal in 6 games and taken off the Matthews/Marner line. He could very well have been stunting Marner's production.
Domi also is in his contract year. Aside from his 1 game feeding Knies he hasn't done much. Looked terrible with Tavares and Nylander who are flying and still they couldn't carry him.

If I were Nylander I’d be insulted to be compared with those guys. None of these guys has the ability to turn it on like Nylander can when he wants to and none is looking for 10 mils a year; he’s gifted with world class skills offensively, only problem is Nylander doesn’t always put in an honest effort like the true great players do. He plays great when he has a personal agenda to or after he gets a butt kick, other times he just floats around.
Nylander had a fantastic year last year as well and as you should know last year was not his contract year.
Your point was contract year hence why he's performing.
My point is Nylander is just performing but you had to give him a shot because it's a contract year.
I merely pointed out that there are plenty of players who don't perform in their contract year.
So in a nutshell Nylander is performing this year which happens to be a contract year.
Nylander performed last year which happened to not be a contract year.
Hence contract year has no relevance. Just ask Domi, Bert, and Sammy
It appears you jumped the gun on this one.
McCabe played all of 10 seconds so they were shorthanded on D all game.
They let in 1 goal against Dallas who had no regulation losses prior to this one.
Granted Woll was fantastic again but the D did look better.
Have to say though whenever Reaves is on Leafs are stuck in their own end.
Is it just me or do the leafs always get out played in OT?

Not to mention the last two games against Florida.
In the playoffs last year vs tampa the Leafs won all 3 ot games.Really? Cause this stat would probably suggest otherwise:

I think the Leafs defense looked better without McCabe. Sometimes 5 defenseman works well they all get plenty of ice time and they get into the game.
I don't think they looked better because it was 5 D. They looked better because McCabe just hasn't been that good so with him out it brings up the average. Quite frankly Holl is probably better than McCabe. McCabe is -4 this year. Worse of all Leaf D. Holl is +7 leads his team.
