I was anxiously awaiting for his video to drop yesterday. Seixeiro is one of the only podcasts I watch these days. I love him. He tells it like it is. He called Vlad a privileged entitled brat who is the son of a Hall of Famer and has been in major league clubhouses his entire life. What I found most interesting is the way he labeled John Schneider, as an enabler that allows this sort of behavior by constantly making excuses for Guerrero and tiptoeing around him constantly. And it's true even after the comments, Schneider was basically making excuses for what Guerrero said. It's pretty pathetic actually. I'm in the camp of saying he's gotta go. We need a new manager. Guerrero needs to see the consequences of this type of year he's had. And needs to fix his damn feet at the plate… Too many toe taps too much nonsense and wasted movement and timing. Shit pitch selection. There is no more scouting report on him. He takes fastballs inside. He takes fastballs outside. He has no clue what he's looking for. Pitchers just need to mix it up and they got him. Hard soft/In out.
I gotta say I love how Rogers Sportsnet is totally talking about this without an ounce of censorship from ownership. I can't wait to see if he plays tonight and gets booed.
Philip
A search of the Sports Discussion thread will reveal that you, Philip, were perhaps the biggest TERB supporter of Vlad's contract extension. I, on the other hand, advocated that he be traded before the deadline in 2024.
One year into the deal isn't long enough to assess whether it was the right decision.
I don't have time to find the link, but there was a story posted on Yahoo! News within the last two days stating that 'Vlad believes that he's being paid for what he's done, rather than for what he will do'. Perhaps that's covered by Sid Seixeiro's podcast. Sid Seixeiro sounds like a porn star name. Yahoo! News is the Internet's best source for information about Meghan Markle.
Here are some interesting 2026 baseball stats, from a guy who will fall just short of the minimum 502 plate appearances to be included among the qualified players:
21 Home Runs, 70 RBIs, .296 batting average, .508 slugging, .869 OPS, and he won a Gold Glove in 2025. They belong to former Blue Jay Ty France, who signed a minor league free agent deal with the San Diego Padres in February after being non-tendered by the Blue Jays. I don't know Ty's 2026 salary, but it was $1 Million in 2025 and he made $10.9 Million in 2023-24 combined before being non tendered by the Mariners.
Teams which give lucrative long term extensions or free agent contracts to first basemen have not fared well in the standings in recent memory. Albert Pujols, Joey Votto, Chris Davis and Prince Fielder immediately come to mind. It's not so much the gross amount of offensive production they generate. It's more about the shear number of baseball players who can hit, but the only spots that they don't hurt a team defensively are first base, left field and designated hitter.
On a positive note, the contractual obligations to Vlad will end after only 13 more seasons. He might or might not ever waive his no trade clause, but if his is moved, the Jays will likely have to eat a large portion of his contract. The luxury tax implications of the Jays' salary total don't bode well for the future. Missing the 2026 postseason will at least lessen the penalties which will be applied in next year's July draft.
