Until the Leafs win a cup with Kessel in the line up that trade will always haunt the Leafs and Kessel. Especially if the Bruins go on to bag another cup or two over the next several years.

yes toronto is a classless city....specially when people start labeling the whole city because of one douche.
This city will be mearsured ( on class or no class ) when they win or lose and no cars will be set on fire or no rock throwing throw windows

Guys I support all Teams in Canada and I am glad that Kessel is having a good series but in my opinion I would much rather have Seguin/Hamilton then Kessel. Again the Boston guys are still young so we do not know how well both will turn out but in my mind Boston will be proved the winner of this trade in the years ahead. I guess we will review this in a few years.

Kessel was not the reason we lost and a big reason we went seven with the oh so experienced Bruins. Seguin is a great player, but he has been surrounded by stars and go to guys for all of his so far brief NHL career. He really hasn't faced any adversity or scrutiny to the extent that Kessel has. He has never been "the guy" and faced the challenge of a Chara shadowing his every move.
Kessel showed up in a big way against the Bruins in this series and that's all you can ask of the guy, to play his best when it counts. He didn't make the trade so cut the guy some slack. This is not even close to being the greatest fleecing in Leafs/Bruin trade history. We gave up Rask for Raycroft! How did that work out? I doubt even JFJ would have the audacity to deny that was the worst trade the Leafs have made in recent memory.

If I was Chiarelli I'd have a red phone dedicated to the 416/647 area codes in my office so that I never missed those calls

Of course all this commentary on Kessel could be just a waste of time. Who knows where he will be after next season as he will be a free agent. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he bolts as a free agent and goes elsewhere. I think he would be a lot more comfortable playing in a city where he's not always under the spotlight.

Getting paid 5 or 6 million a year living like a normal person would seem like the ideal to me. He can go anywhere in a lot of American markets and live a normal life.

If he believes Toronto is building something he just might stay though

Kessel has not had a bad year since he's been here. Consistently good.

To address the thread title - "Is the Kessel trade the greatest fleecing in NHL history?" - Hell no!

3 years ago the Habs Bob Gainey made a 7 player deal with the Rangers where Montreal got the 7 million dollar dud Scott Gomez and gave up Chris Higgins and future all star defenceman Ryan McDonough, among other assets. McDonough would look so good on the Habs blueline.

Kessel for Seguin/Hamilton doesn't look that bad.

You must keep in mind that the Leaf haters magnify anything negative about the team about tenfold. It makes them feel better about themselves.

What about Cliff Fletcher stealing Doug Gilmour from Calgary for almost nothing.
More recently, how about Lupul and Gardiner for Beauchemin?

Beauchemin had a good year for Anahiem and led the team in playoff scoring. But we got 2 good players in return. If Gardiner turns out to be like Scott Neidermeyer, then it's a steal for sure.

He did have a good year after being mediocre at best with Toronto. Not sure how many more of those he has left in him.

Even with injuries, I'd take Lupul over Beauchemin.

The Boston Bruins have traded defenceman Dougie Hamilton to the Calgary Flames. In return for the Hamilton, the Bruins received Calgary's first-round pick (15th overall) and two second-round picks ...

2 of the 3 players traded from the Kessel trade and heck if Kessel gets traded from the Bruins ... Boy the Bruins history of trading their players who they draft in 1st round continues ...

Bruins were probably not going to resign Hamilton anyways so they got what they could for him. This is going to happen a lot to teams who spend too much on a couple of star players, when the younger guys become RFA or UFA they won't be able to afford to keep everyone.

Boston gets what are the most valuable pieces on the market today and manages to blow it. Nice to see the flames and stars win as the Bruins and Leafs fuck up.

Rumours flying around that the Bruins are very close to shipping Lucic off to the LA Kings. Looks like bit of a house cleaning for Boston the other day they shipped Soderburg off to Colorado who immediately signed him to a 5 yr. deal.

Lucic deal now done, the Bruins will have the 13,14 and 15 picks tonight unless they can deal up for a higher pick.
