There are a lot of cheap people out there, I know a lot of cheap people who make over 100k. Are you cheap? If so, what makes you cheap? Do you take pride in being cheap?

How do you think rich people stay rich? By being cheap! I saw a guy who claimed to be wealthy on a talk show saying that he squeezes ketchup packages into the bigger bottle at home.

If you give away your money too freely you devalue what you have left. When I think about it.. all that separates me from being a street person is the wealth I have accumulated. That is a pretty thin thread when you think about it. If I lost everything, could I start again? Sure, but I am not 100% sure I would have the will and energy to do it again.

Depends on how you define "cheap". If I need something, I'll do a little research to save a buck or two. I try to make wise decisions, but the price isn't the only factor, ever. But I don't throw my money away.

It all comes down to smart decisions. Knowing when it is prudent to be cheap and when it isnt.

My lawyer is Jewish and complains to me about other Jewish ppl being cheap, but doesn't see his own hypocrasy.

I hate paying more than 100.00 for H H in hobbying so I try to stay with a few regs who charge no more than that. Other than that I try to live within my means but this reminds me that I gotta find a better cell plan soon.

There are people in this world that I just do not understand, they live in a world where tomorrow will be better than today when there are no guarantees. I know a woman that was planning to go on vacation on her credit card because she had no vacation for 18 months because she was out of work. Her new job was about to start in 6 weeks, so she was going to live it up on her credit card and pay it later. When I see things at bargain prices I buy a big quantity. You will need things like shaving cream, soap, and food items, in the future, so why not buy it when it is at half price? I buy synthetic motor oil on special, I have 6 jugs at the price most people would pay for regular motor oil. Sometimes I see items and tools at Canadian Tire for up to 80% off. I might buy it because I may need it in the future. With the price of labor these days and the low price of tools ( especially when it is at a reduced price ) these items can pay you back 10 times.

This is so true. The wealthiest people I know tend to be very "cheap"
I consider myself to be FRUGAL, but others call me cheap. Smart decisions when shopping are the key. Capitalize on good savings for essentials. Know your prices, and do your homework for big items. Do a test - "can i live without buying this item?" - if you can go without, don't buy it

Finally, my last bit of free advice, don't be stupid - don't drive halfway across Toronto to save 0.02 on gasoline, which might add up to $2 on the total fill up. Don't spend $10 on smokes or $5 for a beer that you could have in your home. Don't be stupid and pass on $2 parking meter, then rack up $30 parking tickets like crazy, or get $100 speeding tickets. Call Rogers, spend 1 hour on the phone and save $100's per year on your mobile/internet bill.

If you make silly day-to-day decisions like these, then no matter how cheap you are, you'll never get ahead. Use those savings on all those pretty girls at the MP instead!
