Just goes to show that if you have money like Michael Jackson, Kobe Bryant, O.J. Simpson, Ted Kennedy, etc. you can make these nasty "problems" go away.

On the subject of double standard, yes and no. The sad fact is that all or almost all rapists, pedophiles and women killers are male. On the other hand, women do tend to scream sexual assault or sexual harassment on the slimmest pretext and the entire justice system is turned against the male.

She is getting death threats now because of tweets she made and is in police protection.
Talk about stupidity!!!

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department has arrested a 16-year-old girl and a 15 year old girl and they have been charged with "Aggravated Menacing" for making the threats via Twitter.

The verdict in what has become known everywhere as “the Steubenville rape case” came down on Sunday but, far from bringing any kind of closure to an ugly episode, it has touched off an unparalleled round of social-media nastiness and exposed a widespread belief that the victim was to blame for her plight.

EMMETT MACFARLANE Steubenville’s rape outrage shines a light on our sex-consent laws

It’s almost impossible to believe that some of the things that have been tweeted in the wake of the decision are the real opinions of real people, and not some sort of sick satire.

In the case, a 16-year-old girl in Steubenville, Ohio, who had passed out at a high-school party from drinking alcohol was repeatedly raped and violated by teen boys while others stood by and cheered them on. There are also reports that she may have been urinated on. The boys boasted of their actions on various social media, and took pictures of the unconscious girl and triumphantly shared those, too.

Two of the boys, Ma'lik Richmond and Trent Mays, were convicted in juvenile court on Sunday and sentenced to at least one year in juvenile detention.

Within hours, people on Twitter, including many who seemed to be teenagers themselves, were posting their opposition to the conviction and/or voicing sympathy for the rapists.

“They did what most people in their situation would have done,” said @zJosiah.

“That’s not rape you’re just a loose drunk slut,” typed @romano_santino.

A number of Tweeters rounded up here were convinced the girl brought it on herself by drinking too much, and that she should have been more thoughtful of the teenage boys around her before putting them in the apparently unfair and difficult position of having to rape her. “Be responsible for your actions ladies before your drunken decisions ruin innocent lives,” wrote @THEkayla_jeter.

Even some mainstream media seemed confused about the issue. CNN has taken a beating for going to the scene of the verdict live in the minutes after it came down, only to have the first reaction from reporter Poppy Harlow to be a lament for the “two young men who had such promising futures” seeing their lives ruined by the verdict. The reporter goes on and on about the boys and how “moving” it was to see them face the consequences of their actions, and never once mentions the victim. In the same segment, a CNN analyst refers to the “tragedy” of the verdict.

This was a case of children raping a child. It is incredibly tragic, but the real horror is that many young people believe that there is nothing wrong with sexually assaulting an unconscious girl at a party, because, as they used to say, she’s asking for it.

The Ohio attorney general said Sunday there will be a grand jury hearing to look at more evidence – which includes thousands of text messages and tweets, as well as more photos and even a video of a boy joking about how often “the dead girl,” as he calls her, was raped – and that more boys may be charged.

do you hate him more than me ? i mean we are on the same side on this particular topic.
I don't see where I said I hate him. I don't recall even using that word. I think I said something about losing a lot of respect quickly though. Faster then I have with most here. Nothing wrong with that. I don't hate him however. His opinion is simply his opinion.

I don't hate you either. I didn't hold you in the same regard as I did him, so to answer your question, no my opinion of you did not change even with your opinion on this matter. I still think low of you, so it is no shock to me your opinion here. His opinion however was.

This does not surprise me based on the opinions of some here. I don't see one person mention how this girl's life has been ruined. How she could have had a promising future as well, and all the trauma this has done to her. It is a sad and sick world we live in.

These young people should go and watch a "slutwalk". She is asking for it only if she is actually asking for it. Silence is not consent.

Remember that movie (Animal House?) where the guy had a girl drunk out her mind lying in bed next to him? He could have had his way with her but did the right thing by doing nothing.

Were the threats directed at the female victim? If yes, one would have thought that girls would be more sympathetic and supportive of another female. Whatever happened to the "sisterhood"?

Oh Shhhhh yourself. Seriously. LOL

Stop putting words in my mouth and if you get any more melodramatic, people will start to question your man-hood. So relax.

I never said anything about fearing you. I don't. I never said anything about being disgusted by you. I am not.

I said my low opinion of you did not change. I still think of you today the same way I did last week, and last year.

There are reasons for my opinion of you. You have never asked for those either. Just saying.

So please feel free to continue on continuing on. It really does not affect me one way or another.

I dont know why TERB suprises me anymore, but it still does.
For all the intelligence, witty banter and valuable information that is shared on the board, it's easy to forget that they are some truly fucked up people posting here, with some seriously fucked up views on life, personal responsibility and women

I do not understand why this thread is 5 pages long. To me, it is exceedingly simple. A girl made a bad decision, a decision that millions of teenage boys and girls make daily, and now this bad decision will haunt her for the rest of her life because of the malicious and borderline psychotic behaviour of a couple teenage boys. This is not 'boys being boys' or the boys making a 'bad decision'. I don't care that studies show that teenager pre-frontal cortices aren't fully developed. To say that's no excuse doesn't begin to cover it. My friends and I made many dumb decisions when we were 15. We watched others make dumb decisions. We were even cruel to each other sometimes. None of us, ever for one second, considering raping anyone. None of us ever thought it was okay to fuck a sleeping girl. The disconnect is mind-boggling to me. I went to many parties with many drunken people. Sex occurred at some of these parties. Bad decisions were made. There were drunken hookups that were regretted later. At no point did it ever occur to 99% of the people at these parties to rape an unconscious woman. This doesn't make us better people. This is just a normal thought process that normal, non-socially abnormal people have. No means no. Unconscious does mean consent. How anyone can defend these boys is beyond me, and is troubling on many levels. The girl made a typically teenage bad decision. To compare that decision to what the boys did is abhorrent.
I'm not saying the boys should be sentenced to 40 years in jail or anything. I don't know what the proper punishment is really. But to me, there are decisions that people make that should define your life. You rape someone, you murder someone, you should pay for that decision for the rest of life, whether you're 16 or 50. Normal 16-year olds understand consent.

I really can't see how there can be any equivocation here. The victim was passed out when she was sexually assaulted. A bunch of other teens watched it happen and some appear to have cheered it on and/or recorded it (including the guy who was daring people to piss on her). How she passed out is immaterial.

These verdicts, which I consider way too lenient, happened within a week of Zerlina Maxwell going on Hannity's show to rebut the NRA's ridiculous position that the way to stop rape is for all women to be armed. In addition to pointing out that many victims are raped by people they know (husband, boyfriend, etc.) when having a gun will not help, Maxwell argued that one of the solutions is to teach men not to rape. Maxwell is a rape survivor herself. For suggesting that there should be more emphasis on education, rather than guns, she was subjected to a host of really hateful comments on her facebook page and twitter account (generally the haters wished her to be gang raped so she would "learn").

Maxwell's comment seems particularly appropriate to me when Steubenville teenagers are busy blaming the victim because, when a teenage girl passes out at a party, she's asking for it and she's ruining the lives of two good young men by making a fuss.

FWIW, I suggest JTK keep walking his first comment back, rather than being defensive. It's not like he has the moral high ground.

If those kids' parents had money, they probably could have made this whole thing go away, like Michael Jackson did with his "problem".
I think if Michael Jackson was not rich and a mega star, he would not have had a problem.

... She had also been drinking excessively and had no real recollection of the events. No-one poured the booze into her, she did this of her own accord....
So when JTK joins the Supreme Court raping passed out drunk women will be fine.

Idiot.

There's only one victim here. And now she's getting death threats. How anyone can defend the actions of those "boys" is beyond me. Oh yeah, "finger penetration" without consent is considered rape in Ohio.

Perhaps there is more to the story then was release to the public and this girl is a liar? It won't be the first time that has happened.
