Scenicdrive is exactly right. In the summer I can come to party without crutches. Not putting up pics. For those who are wondering: I started on some clicks but really stressing because for me almost impossible: sooo insainly painful. They say is loosens up & gets better; WHEN??!!
For me, after about 5 cm of lengthening. Which means that clicking is hell for the first 6 weeks. I took pain meds 45 minutes before clicking and it helped. After 6 cm, clicking was a total joke I was laughing.

HD is right. When I first started it took hours to click. Later, at about 3 or 4 cm I could bang them out in minutes. Hang in there CB, just get your technique down well. Have you met any other patients that you can hang out with and share ideas?

I am at Elkies house now. Incredibly BORING. No L.L. here. Dr. Betz perscribed new meds. I will try clicking tomorrow. Since I skated I have very muscular legs & ligaments etc. Even physiotherapist noted. If new meds do not work then I can say I at least tried. I would have always wondered if I did not try. This has made me reflect on life & that at my age it really is not the end of the world being 5'5". I shall come home & get on with enjoying life. I would be off crutches very soon & could show scars at spring terb party. SOOO I shall see if the new meds help. I did 8 clicks on my left leg today. I can take pain but now the right leg resists too much & pain becomes nauseating. No clicking.

Don't give up unless you've tried aneasthetic clicking. I remember a patient who had anaesthetic clicking 3 times before she reached 3 cm, and then she was able to click after that. I've never heard of a patient who stopped prematurely because he could not click anymore.

At this point I would love that. I am so exsaperated. I mentioned to Dr. Betz but he said no, it makes no sence. He sent a bunch of pain killers. I now took 1 hr ago & buzzing a bit ( high). Perhaps this will do the trick. What is cost of anaesthetic clicking? I am accostomed to pain & discomfort in sports but at present the pain goes too far, nauseating & prevents clicking.

It is an ugly rotation you make with your leg to make the device inside your leg separate the broken bone by 1/15 of a millimeter, causing a clicking sound. Do 15 of these, and you've earned your millimeter for the day. Oh, and then you have to do the other leg too.

Ouch ouch ouch. I'm still wincing. Any animosity I had for CB just vanished.

I'm glad I'm 6ft tall naturally.

CB, if all the pain meds don't work.

try alcohol. its an alternative pain killer.

by alcohol. I mean whiskey, scotch, wine. and drink it naturally. it numbs the pain.

but be careful. im not sure if its recommended to mix alcohol with pain meds. ask the doc first.

one day they'll figure out how to turn off pain receptors completely.

Guys, mind you it is only the clicking that hurts. Once the clicking is done, the rest of the day is pretty much easy. It's like working out with weights, each set is brutal, but once the workout is over you just relax and enjoy the new growth. However, instead of getting stronger and stronger, you actually get weaker and weaker (and skinnier) as your legs lengthen.

Alternate pain? As opposed to .........?
alternative option other than the pain medications his doc or the hospital gives him.

its like, when you're drunk and you run into a wall. you only really feel the real pain in the morning, when the alcohol is no longer in your system.

Good try and I kind of understand it. Sort of like putting your fist through the door to help with your headache.

That sounds pretty horrible to go through. I hope CB does not give up, to have gone that far and then quit would be terrible. But it does sound painful.

Would nitrous oxide (laughing gas) be effective when inhaled prior to the daily "clicks", or is that too mild to work on that type of pain?

I had a tooth extracted at the dentist's office after inhaling the gas and I felt no pain at all during it.
