Aubin, can be spectacular at times... his scouting report represents a great varying degree of inconsistency if played many games consistently... therefore, he's been typecasted as a credible backup.
however, On December 30, 2004, while playing for the St. John's Maple Leafs, Jean-Sebastien stopped an amazing sixty-three shots on goal in a home contest against the Syracuse Chiefs. Aubin's Leafs won by a 5-3 margin. being able to put on a performance like this deserves him much, the chance to compete for a #1 position again.
however, before he left pittsburgh, he has caused absolute chaos in the dressing room. he has scrapped his own teammate in the 'Q', had pucks fired at him in practice with an intent on taking his head off, also. what's with him that would piss off teammates so bad that they would want to injure their #1 tender? obviously a bit of immaturity showing in the 'Q'... but, he has started up shit in the ECHL, the AHL, and at NHL levels within his own dressing room. i'd give him the chance to play, but, i'd definitely proceed with caution.
your thinking is right, guyroch: if the leafs wish to win on most nights, they need a tender that can consistently stand on his head... sadly, though... that just isn't the way a hockey team should be built.
