I enjoy your debates but Kubina injury has brought up the fact by experts all over the radio that the ACC is one of the worse hockey surfaces ....

the media is not the EXPERTS. they only relay the 'topic du jour' ie. mostly spin...

do you remember when the leafs were a bunch of crybabies over every penalty called against them?... Tucker, Corson, McCabe, etc... the media took their complaints as the truth that ALL refs conspired against the Maple Leafs... come to think of it Jim Ralph is still on that stupid crybaby bandwagon... can't stand listening to that guy. Dennis Bayek, on the other hand is a fine commentator and media guy.

the sad thing is- alot of the media personalities actually know alot more about hockey than you or I... but, they get talking about HEADLINES and misreport the truth.

I accept that the ice at the ACC has problems at certain times. especially considering that the leafs practice on very good ice at RICOH... i am sure it is hard to keep going back and forth from fast ice to soft ice...

BTW- big Todd Bertuzzi brook his Tuck in Florida last week because the ice was so soft his blade sunk into the ice!!!

Flames @ Leafs Saturday Oct. 14th -Mats Sundin's 500th career goal capped one of the best games of his career.

Sundin beat Miikka Kiprusoff with a long shot 50 seconds into overtime to complete a hat trick and give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 5-4 victory over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night.

Sundin added an assist for the Maple Leafs, who have played four straight overtime games. Darcy Tucker and Alex Steen also scored for the Maple Leafs, who rallied after blowing a two-goal lead.

Tucker received a questionable hooking penalty with 8 seconds left in the third. Sundin skated up the ice in overtime and put a long slap shot past goalie Kiprusoff.

Sundin has 15 overtime goals in his career - the most in NHL history
"It's only fitting that he scored that huge, big goal in overtime because he's done it so many times before for us," Tucker said. "It was nice to see the ovation from the crowd and all the guys sitting around waiting at the end of the ice. It was a very special moment for a lot of guys on the team."

Mark Giordano scored twice for the Flames, who had just five goals their first four games.

After Toronto defenseman Hal Gill turned the puck over in his own end, Calgary's Daymond Langkow tied it at 4 at 7:15 of the third.

Calgary had a season-high four goals and that's usually enough for Kiprusoff, but Toronto capitalized on most of its chances - something the Leafs have had trouble doing this season.

The Flames spent half of the first period in the penalty box, giving Toronto five power-play opportunities.

Tucker - alone at the side of the net - converted Kyle Wellwood's pass on the power play at 8:09 of the first.

After defenseman Bryan McCabe faked a shot just over a power play expired, he passed to Sundin, whose one-timer made it 2-0 at 15:09 of the first.

The Flames almost matched their goal total for the season with three straight goals in the second period.

Iginla made a pass from behind the net to Giordano, whose wrist shot cut it to 2-1 at 11:26 of the second.

Tony Amonte's shot deflected off the boards behind the net to Matthew Lombardi, who scored a short-handed goal from the side of the net at 7:53.

Giordano gave Calgary a 3-2 lead by skating toward the net untouched before putting a backhander past goalie Andrew Raycroft at 11:26.

Steen poked the puck past a sprawled Kiprusoff at 17:38 of the second.

Just over a minute later, Raycroft made a spectacular kick save before Sundin staked up the ice and put a wrist top shelf, blocker side.

Notes: Toronto outshot Calgary 43-30. ... Calgary has scored just one goal in 32 power-play chances this season. ... Toronto forward Michael Peca missed the game with a lower body injury.

I thought Cassie Campbell did a great job in her first game as a colour commentator.

I did not like Cassie Campbell's commentating for the whole game. I think they decided to do this because it was breast cancer day or whatever at the ACC. Perhaps they should consider cutting to her every now and then like they do in football games sometimes. The whole game with her doing the colour commentating just got annoying. Other then that, Sundin had a great game. IMO he is really stepping up as captain. 500 goals, which would make him the first Leaf to do it as a Leaf I believe.

she did a great job... However, I couldn't stand her squeeky voice. It just didn't have a 'hockey night' feel to it. I won't continue to listen to the broadcast if this were to continue...lol.. Cole and Neale are classic. if it's not done that way, I'll settle for Beyak and the penalty winer Ralph...

It might be Aubin that get's moved... hence, why he's with the big league right now.

it's great to see the leafs outshooting opponents! that hasn't happened consistently since 1993!

Last nights game was certainly a wake-up call. I think it was the first game where the Leafs were totally out played. I think it had to do with the huge game on Saturday and the time off they had. Let's hope they bounce back fast...

little off topic,
hey everyone. back from Pens game. it was cool watching Malkin's debut and 1st NHL goal... he's got serious skill but i'm concerned if he's gonna get caught blindsided with one of those big hits. he's still used to the olympic ice where there's little big open ice hits. he better adjust fast. scoring a first nhl goal against a hot Martin Brodeur will be unforgetable for sure. the pens got 38 shots on Brodeur.

though the pens lost, they are going to be a great team soon. if you saw the game you'd take many positives from it in the Penguins' favour.

I like the fact that I got to sit 2nd row exactly behind Malkin for only $70...excellent seats... what would that get you at the ACC?

i can definitely appreciate a team like NJ that has players that have been playing together for so long that they know eachother's every move. funny thing- it's year after year of good drafting in NJ that led to the situation they have been in the last few years. they are always a threat come each night and come playoff time.

I see the pessimism regarding the leafs is in full steam. i say don't worry... they aren't perfect, but, let's see how they resolve their current deficiencies over the next few weeks.

i heard 4-2... Is Nash ok? heard he got hit with a puck.

howabout Chicago Blackhawks? leading in the late 3rd 4-3 over Dallas. edit... 4-4 tied up and won by dallas with 40 secs. left. 5-4 Dallas. Dallas now tied with San Jose for lead in the West.

I got blasted good here on terb for saying they have a good team in the works last season. I also said the same of Pittsburgh, Minnesota and Chicago.

Sat. Oct 21... HNIC NYR's at ACC to face the Leafs.

Playing for the third time in four nights, they did well to come back in the third against a well-rested team and get a point. It looked like a really hard-fought point for the Leafs, IMO...

The Leafs outshot the Rangers 38-28 through overtime. It was the seventh time in their nine games they've won on the shots counter.

On power plays, New York was 2-for-4 and Toronto was 1-for-5.

Lundqvist played great.

I saw alot of positives in the leafs favour in this game.

A couple of concerns...

...Raycroft seemed to be fighting the puck...although he has been solid recently.

...the power play seems to be overthinking...especially Wellwood,, he's gotta learn to shoot the puck when he is in a good scoring position..

..Overall, this team is miles more exciting, win or lose than last years team, sooner or later, they'll start burying their chances.

I judge more by the quality..

...the # of goals allowed is not as much an indicator as the types that are going in....tonight I noticed soft goals, and I have to say I missed two of the games you mentioned...saw the Fri game, so maybe I had a warped view on how he is playing...

They also better figure out how to win shootouts...for a team that's gonna be on the cusp of post season play, this is crictical..the Leafs are now 1-3 in shootouts, 3 important points lost early in the season...

so you mean that you want 0 pts. for reaching over time unless you win? what i never liked before was ties.. what's the point of a game to end in tie. you want a duality resolved, right?

But who are we to argue how the game is played... these rules were voted in favour by a combination of the pro's- ie.. the players and general managers. mostly the players say, though, as they greatly outweigh the GM's weighting in the votes.

I'm kinda pumped about tonights game.. I don't know why.

I predicted a shootout win for the Leafs. And- if it does go to shootout, they should strongly consider including Peca and Gill in the top 3 shooters.... why? Peca has the highest shootout success on the team, and Gill is hard to read, and for some strange reason, he is really good 1-on-1 on the goalie...

unlike most of you, i am impressed with Gill's form this season. we've come along way since Aki the great.

and BTW- i still think they shoulda kept Lindros and discarded O'neil...

hey- O'Neill looked absolutely lost out there tonight... what the hell was Maurice doing playing him?

On Ottawa's side, that Tom Preissing is a damn good D-man. he only makes $600,000?? i wonder when his contract is up?
