I was hoping the season would be toast, resolve the matter over the summer allowing time to forget this year had happened. To throw a short season at fans feels like scraps from the table.

The owners/players cost the sport half a season. I hope fans return the favor now. Like James said, lets see how many fans stick to their guns on being fed up.

If fans act like it never happened and return to watching the NHL, it'll just give them the impression that they can keep pulling this crap again and again.

With MLB and CFL done for the year and NFL and college football winding down, hockey and basketball are the only games in town.

Let me ask this of the hockey fans: seeing as how disrespectful both sides have been to the fans, why ever would the fans base return? I know all sports have their fans but honestly, this can't be taken seriously a a season. Why can't the fans wait until next year and start fresh? It'll probably motivate all teams to deliver better product if the rest of the schedule was a wash out.

Also, it reeks of an astounding level of disdain towards the sport if they were to actually hand out the cup to a team this year. It slaps in the face every single other team in history that played a full season to win a Championship.

This season will have an "*" attached to it. So any player that wins anything this year will be regarded with a: "Yeah, right, that year" for the rest of his life.

That's a false and derisory statement you've made Don.

There will be a rash of injuries (ie- groin pulls) but the team that eventually lifts the Cup will be a true champion. A younger, fitter team will rise to the top. In the most recent strike impacted seasons; the NFL lock out of 1982 and the NHL strike of 1994 the teams that won their championship those years (Washington Redskins and New Jersey Devils) went on to win it all again.

Maybe a shorter regular season is good for the game. Theoretically, an 82 game full season with 4 playoff rounds could go 110 games. That is a lot of games for one team.

80 percent of seats in ACC belong to corporate folks who bought them for 5 years. So regardless of how leafs perform, they will still get paid. Leaf fans are such suckers. The company does not give a shit if they win the cup or not cuz they already know that they are hot shit and the fans are locked in for 5+ years. Even the players don't give a shit. They play/work like government workers.
lol

Really ?

I had no idea playoff games in Toronto, for Leaf games, were free. I thought Leaf playoff tickets would be the most expensive in the league.
If I am correct, and I am quite certain I am, that would mean more money for the owners.

Who knew ?
It is likely that the new owners of MLSE really want to make the playoffs ... now being a TV company(Leafs owners) I think there is another reason why the Leafs in the playoffs would be at the top of the list ... for the owners of MLSE.

One of the new owners is Rogers and look at what they are doing to upgrade the Blue Jays. Maybe they can do the same for the Leafs except the Leafs draft record is terrible.

Maybe they can convince Bettman to rig things so that the Leafs get in to the playoffs..

MLB doesn't have a salary cap, the NHL does, that's the major difference. MLSE wants to win, every major league team wants to win, that goes without saying. Spending money isn't the issue with MLSE, before the cap they were consistently among the highest spenders in the league, which is how they managed to get into the playoffs regularly despite their abysmal drafting and scouting record.
