That said, people of colour can’t use that as a scapegoat and blame it for every shortcoming in their lives. They have to work that much harder to attain success. Sure, it’s not just nor fair, but that’s the reality of living in a western nation. POC have more obstacles to overcome. It’s a challenge, but definitely not insurmountable.
Once more and more POC become industry, financial, institutional, and political leaders, then they can effect change and work towards creating a more equitable society. That’s what’s been happening over the past couple of decades.

I always find it funny that the same women who complain the loudest about men having all the money, power and positions of authority are the same women who choose to pursue fluffy academic programs (English, Gender Studies, Psychology etc.) as opposed to getting a degree in business or engineering. The women who do succeed in life generally identify more closely with their profession than they do with their gender.
There is wealth privilege absolutely. I wouldn't peg white privilege at number 1 since the GTA is now majority people of color. In 2021, if you work hard, you will achieve your goals no matter what your skin color is. Claiming that race comes into play for your shortcomings in a multicultural city such as Toronto is an excuse for laziness and a cry for self pity in my opinion.
I am not white and never feel that it dings me in anything in life. It's not even about hard work. Even if I'm super lazy, I don't feel like I lag because of race. Racism is out dated. Only low class uneducated types might still be into it.
I didn’t list them in order of priority or anything. So there is no “#1”. It was just the first one I put.
White privilege is not just about success. It is being treated differently. It is having to work twice as hard as the white guy beside you.
If you are having a race and the white guy is put at the half way mark as his starting point, you would have to run real fucking hard and fast to make it to the finish line at the same time as the white guy. That is the point about white privilege.
POC, brown and black alike, have to go through shit we don’t even think of. Adopting a “white” name so that your resume actually gets looked at. Having a fair chance at housing instead of being denied because the landlord thinks the white people will pay or keep the place better.

Again, this is 2021. Whites are no longer the majority in the GTA. If a person of color is having a hard time finding a home because of their skin color, it is not showing in the demographics and also would be all over the news. Employers also have diversity laws for hiring people of color that they need to abide by as well. I come from a poor family and abuse and busted my ass to get to where I am. Where was my white privilege growing up?
