Thanks ogibowt!

Here's the original version of "My Ding-A-Ling" from 1952 by Dave Bartholomew, a New Orleans musician and songwriter closely associated with Fats Domino.
It's bizarre that Chuck Berry's 1972 remake was his only song out of so many classics to reach #1 on Billboard.

The original version of "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" written and recorded by Roy Hall in 1955 is okay but nothing compared to the Killer's cover which is one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever.

Here's the original version of "Rock Around The Clock" which was recorded a few months before Bill Haley's excellent take on it. Haley's was the first rock and roll record to reach #1 on the pop charts but only later on when it was used in the opening credits of "Blackboard Jungle".

I've got dozens of versions of "Louie Louie", here's the original from 1957 before it became an excellent drunken frat anthem.

"Chariot" by Petula Clark was a huge hit in France in 1962, a remake a year later with different lyrics was a big hit for Little Peggy March as "I Will Follow Him".

This was written in French in 1961 under the title of "Le Moribond" (The Dying Man), by Belgian poet-composer Jacques Brel. In 1964, it was translated into English by Rod McKuen and recorded by the Kingston Trio as "Seasons In The Sun". Later it was a huge international hit for Canadian Terry Jacks.

I'm feeling very old. Lots of great music. I remember being rather surprised when a Naked Eyes tune turned out to be a cover, originally written by Burt Bacharach. Always Something There to Remind Me.

Music is timeless, a twelve year old can be a fan of Mozart.

Speaking of "Stairway To Heaven", Led Zeppelin opened for Spirit on their 1968 tour and Jimmy Page stole the guitar melody from "Taurus" to create his classic.

^^ inspired, and lifted a couple notes for the intro, yes. But let's be real - that song has virtually nothing in common with Stairway to Heaven.

Led Zep added a lot to the stuff they stole, ...er "covered".

Here's Willie Dixon's "You Need Love" which doesn't sound much like "Whole Lotta Love"

but you listen to the Small Faces' great version from 1966 and you can imagine Robert Plant stealing all the best bits without giving credit to the originators.

"Mbube" from 1939, is Zulu for "The Lion". It sold 100,000 copies in South Africa by 1948 for Solomon Linda's Evening Birds. Alan Lomax brought to Pete Seeger who transcribed it as "Wimoweh" and had a hit for his Weavers.
It evolved into "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" as a #1 hit remake by the Tokens in 1961.

Hot Chocolate, a racially mixed group from the UK most famous for "You Sexy Thing" recorded a few songs before they were covered by other bands.
Here's their original version of "You Could Have Been A Lady" from 1971 which was an early hit for April Wine.

They also did "Brother Louie" in 1973 before the Stories had a #1 hit with the song.

Here's "I Only Have Eyes For You" by the Swallows from 1952.
It was later a hit for the Flamingos in 1959 and Art Garfunkel in 1975.

Looks like all my records are on You Tube, it's amazing what's up there.
Here's the original of "My Boy Lollypop" by Barbie Gaye in 1956, Millie Small's version in 1964 was a world-wide hit.
