The staged fights are making a comeback. Last night Reaves and delauriex were chatting before the game and agreed they can fight whenever either wanted to, the same day Simon died. Was his substance abuse from complications of cte or something he couldn't kick?
Deslauriers maybe?

CTE nazis are out in full force. Nobody fought more than domi and tiger Williams and they're fine. Life outside hockey always gets ignored. How did they know he had cte, does an mri detect it?

Domi and Tiger don't represent every football player, hockey player, pro wrestler, UFC fighter who have suffered repeated head blows...I think the really smart people that study CTE are on to something.

They trained and prepare. They space out their fight. They would never fight every 3 days like hockey players stupidly do...

ohhhh, got it, so the brain injuries are different for boxers and MMA fighters because they train and space out their fights.

I think UFC is a barbaric sport, Extreme Pro Wrestling does some crazy stuff too...

I have no issue with people that think fighting should be taken out of hockey, as long as their in the camp that boxing should banned, MMA should be banned, and probably car racing seeing how so many race car drivers die and it's so dangerous. If you think those sports shouldn't be banned but have an issue with fighting in hockey, then you really need to question your logic.

CTE is always brought up when a former athlete takes their own life and I believe part of the reason is the family want to get some financial compensation out of it from their former pro league cause they know how much money they generate. They blame Aaron Hernandez murder conviction of CTE

No they are not different. Just much less frequent because boxers and mma fighters don't go at it multiple times per week... They make 3-4 fight per year on a good year. Often much less. That is why you do not see such frequent problems with them.

I say that and to be honest I hate boxing and mma fighting ;)

These are just the known or major ones, doesn't include people like Shawn O'Sullivan.

Your splitting hairs here, but as long as your against all of them I respect your view. (Again, I would throw race car driving in there as well) but for the sake of sport with specific fighting, IMO your either on one side of the fence or the other.

I don't think any of it such be banned...I don't watch some of it because it's too violent.

The point is I'm not going to feel sorry for Chris Simon's CTE when he's cross checking players in the face and swinging his hockey stick at their head like he's Hank Aaron.
I know, I agree. You forgot stepping on players who were down on the ice.

Fighting can be removed from hockey and you still have hockey.

If you remove fighting from boxing, there is no boxing.

Boxers are trained how to defend themselves from day 1. Learning how to defend oneself in a hockey fight is not part of the curriculum, ever.

The situations are not comparable.

Absolute horse shit.

Your somehow trying to justify fighting because that "is the sport" , but condemning because it's only "part of a sport".

Your argument about boxers being trained to "defend" themselves vs fights in hockey is absolutely laughable.

This statement makes no sense whatsoever, easy on the sauce. Go sleep 😴 it off.

Shack has made the statement before that he would be in favour of removing fighting from hockey. He finds it distasteful.

He's been consistent on this topic.

To me if you remove it then you're going to see a lot of players taking liberties with higher skilled players.

You upset the checks and balances.

That being said I'm a big MMA fan so I lean toward pugilism. Too me it ramps up my adrenaline and my viewing experience.

It was interesting reading Matthews and Marner's comments praising how they admire Reavers and his ability as an enforcer the other day. They're happy that he is on the team...Maybe that says it all.

When I was a kid, I used to love the Rock'em Sock'em series from Don Cherry. The big crazy hits, the fights....Now, I cringe. We know so much more about head injuries now. Hockey is brutal (not as bad as footballl....but still), and fighting is just insane. I am legit scared someone is going to die on the ice from a head shot or fight. These dudes are huge now. They all workout and are strong as fuck. Back in the 80s, hardly anybody worked out in the offseason...

As for Simon, I'm sure his brain will show evidence of CTE. It would be shocking if it didn't. Just think of all the fighters who have died young. Wade Belak, Derek Borougad and many more....
What do we do? Ban all contact sports? All of life has a risk. Many people dont understand that.
