Former Pittsburgh Penguin Konstantin Koltsov who also passed today was by suicide and early reports are the Simon's could be as well.
I didn't know the Penguins guy was suicide, but with Simon I was wondering this because it could be one of those CTE things.
If I recall properly he had substance abuse issues when he was playing.
Anyways he was always the toughest guy on the ice when he played and had some hands as well.

Yes I heard this guy too had died, he had a tennis player girlfriend and it happened while he was in Miami. I never suspected suicide. A simple search answered my question, it unfortunately was. Money, relationship problems maybe? Maybe she had broken up with him as she hasn't withdrawn from the Miami open because of it.

Unfortunately in Simon's case the CTE'ers will be out guns blazing. Maybe he had issues he just couldn't overcome. I heard kypreos talk yesterday about how terrified he was to have to fight him. It's worth a watch on youtube.com, kypreos vs Simon. Simon was a massive, intimidating person.
When I was a kid, I used to love the Rock'em Sock'em series from Don Cherry. The big crazy hits, the fights....Now, I cringe. We know so much more about head injuries now. Hockey is brutal (not as bad as footballl....but still), and fighting is just insane. I am legit scared someone is going to die on the ice from a head shot or fight. These dudes are huge now. They all workout and are strong as fuck. Back in the 80s, hardly anybody worked out in the offseason...
As for Simon, I'm sure his brain will show evidence of CTE. It would be shocking if it didn't. Just think of all the fighters who have died young. Wade Belak, Derek Borougad and many more....

Many were on steroids back then, 80s 90s. Do hockey players commit suicide any higher frequency than the rest of the male population? Many of the goons of years ago seem to have a good quality of life. It's long been rumored belak was a victim of erotic asphyxiation but they won't release that to dishonour him. Stu grimson came out and said that.
There was a class action law suit years ago by former nhl and minor league players claiming long term debilitating head injuries. It was dismissed I believe as lack of evidence and a cash grab by players not in great financial shape. Gary leeman was part of it, had 531 pims in his career. He was one of the bigger names, they were mostly hucksters looking for a payout.

I though Nick Kypreos was dead when he took that punch to the bridge of the nose from Ryan Vandenbussche, he was bleeding like a fountain. Fighting is insane and should be banned.

About a year later Paciorety got slammed into the window by a fucking vicious hit from Chara. Bergeron does not say a word. Does not condemn the hit whatsoever.

The staged fights are making a comeback. Last night Reaves and delauriex were chatting before the game and agreed they can fight whenever either wanted to, the same day Simon died. Was his substance abuse from complications of cte or something he couldn't kick?
He had alcohol issues and maybe more...your youtube video, and there is more, shows what a careless thug Chris Simon was, he was a dangerous selfish player who went above and beyond what a reasonable player would do...he could throw punches for sure but kicking, baseball swings and crosschecks to the face are way offside...I don't think hockey misses him not playing.

Chris Simon is Ojibaw on his father's side and grew up in Wawa. He probably started drinking at a young age.
