Agree. Alternative is a few solid, all star candidate guys in a good year, but not super stars for less money

Injury bug is not a huge problem and if they are solid players they will take turns lighting up the bases as solid players will get hot so, you have a star bat in lineup just not the same guy all the time

Get ones with speed and decent defence and you will win IMHO

Super Stars ask for huge money if they perform or not and they get it as they put bums in seats before they take their first at bat but so will a winning team without super stars and we still have Vlad
Vlad has been healthy so far but at age 25, he's already played about 400 games on artificial turf. He has a large frame, and there's a very real possibility that all of his best years will be before age 30 or thereabouts. Cecil Fielder had height and weight stats similar to Vlad's, and he was pretty much done by age 32.

If Vlad turns into Justin Smoak with five years left on a 'lifetime' contract at $35 Million+ per season, that would hinder the Jays for about a decade, even if they do everything else properly. That's why I think he should be traded, instead of extended. I don't think he will ever be more valuable than he will be this off season. His numbers might be similar, or even better for a while, but they're going to cost about 60 - 70% more than they do now. Value equals performance minus cost.

After the 2011 World Series, the Detroit Tigers signed Prince Fielder to a nine year, $214 Million contract. Fielder was a bit shorter and a bit heavier than Vlad, and three years older. After two seasons, the Tigers traded Prince along with $30 Million to the Texas Rangers for Ian Kinsler. The Rangers got 400 games from Prince, (34 Home Runs, 158 RBIs and a .269 Average over three seasons), for $138 Million.

These are the kinds of risks a team takes if they lock up a big-framed slugger, and Prince never played a home game on artificial turf.

From all these new prospects, Addison Barger is the one that excites me the most. I feel like he has the most upside from what I’ve seen so far. I think once he finds it, and once he sits on pitches, and has an exact location plan that he’s looking for…… he’s going to be a very dangerous hitter that is capable of doing some real damage.. his bat speed is pretty damn amazing.

And Barger will only be 25 in the 2025 season. Maybe Ross Adkins will trade him to the Brewers, to re-acquire Mitch White.

I’ve heard some rumblings about trading him. I think this is our third baseman and that’s it. I’m a fan of his plate coverage. Please don’t start a pessimistic debate re the negativities potentially looming….. let’s keep it happy and thriving.

I'm not a pessimist, Philip. I'm a realist when it comes to baseball.

Having lived in Montreal from 1969-84, I don't have 'Toronto Passions' for the Blue Jays. I observe them objectively, with no personal vested interest in their successes or failures.

From that perspective, all of my opinions are based on what I believe to be the ways they can best become competitive again in the shortest period of time, and to me, that's building from within, rather than trying to buy from without.

I don't see any advantage to having a 'franchise face' for a team which may be destined to stay in the 'second division' indefinitely, if they go that route. The fact that Vlad would happily be 'a Blue Jay for life', even if it means he might never be on the winning side for a postseason game, is disturbing to me, and ought to be for passionate fans.

I also find it disturbing that the Rogers ownership would happily field a substandard product, provided that it earns a profit. It's not as if they haven't always done that with their telecommunications division.

Let’s take out a violin and jump off a bridge. Lol.

I just hope when Mark Shapiro said “continuity” and how important it is to maintain in the front office…. I hope he was referring to dismissing or the very least reassigning Ross Atkins at the end of the year and appointing James Click.

I think when he mentioned continuity in the front office, he was preparing us for the exact opposite.

I just watched yesterdays episode of Blair and Barker. They interviewed John Gibbons, and they spoke a lot about Peter Alonso. I had forgotten he is also a free agent after this season. Easy to forget about him because he’s having an off year, but this is probably pound for pound one of the best sluggers in the world over the past 5 seasons. How perfect both of these guys would look in Toronto.

Alonso won't come to Toronto because there's nowhere for him to play.

The 2024 CWS have pretty much nailed the dishonor of being the worst team in MLB history. They have a winning pct of .225.

For comparison: - https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2881990-the-10-worst-teams-in-mlb-history

The next worst team in post 1900 MLB history is the 1916 Philadelphia Athletics with a winning .pct of .235 - 10 points higher than the humiliatingly bad 2024 ChiSox. The ChiSox are so fucking outrageously bad that they triumph in badness.

This is history in the making!

They're current record is a grovelling, pathetic 32-110. They could run the table and go 20 - 0 to finish the season and still only finish at a .321 winning pct. The 10th worst team in post 1900 MLB history is the 2013 Astros who had a .315 winning pct. So the 2024 Chisox would probably still finish in the worst 20 teams in MLB history.

But of course, they won't run the table - except perhaps by LOSING all 20 games - 😹😹😹😹😹

They may end up as the only team in MLB post 1900 history to win fewer than 40 games in a 162 game season.

These guys are so awful, they're like ordering a hot dog at the ballpark and getting a dog turd on a bun with phlegm for mustard!!! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Is this the year they are not allowed to pick in the top 10 in the draft? Some new rule in MLB that you can only pick in the top 10 so many years in a row.

Listen, it's hard for a small market team like Chicago compete with the likes of a Milwaukee or a Cleveland or a Minneapolis. How are the owners supposed to have enough money to stay with the big boys?

1) Bichette
2) Horowitz
3) Guerrero
4) A serious clean up hitter
5) Barger
6) Springer

James Click GM and Gibby manager…. along with a left-handed starter and a solid catcher. This is my dream 2025 scenario. I like Horowitz as the number two hitter even though I recently realized, I think Horowitz is slower than John Olerud. I didn’t think it was possible to be slower than Johnny O lol.
