What's up with Judge?
He missed a good portion on spring training. He had core issues if I recall but tests proved negative.

If you watch him he's not turning on the fastballs out over the plate that he used to drive. His timing is off.

N.Y. fans are just worried that he's trying to play through an injury that they're not disclosing.

He had a big hit today so hopefully he's coming around. Sloppy series by the bombers all around though.

Full marks to the Jays starters in the series. Yankee broadcasters were praising Toronto's plate discipline in this set of games. They were commenting on how it had improved since they saw them in New York.

Nice shack. Kick a 6'7" muti millionaire superstar when he's down.
I might have permanently crushed his confidence.

All players go through ups and downs and for different reasons. AJ has a track record. I'm not worried about him.

Vladdy is the very definition of plate discipline. He may be tad better in that regard from last year, but so many of his ABs are just painful to watch.

I had to open my big mouth, didn't I? I couldn;t wait until the series was over, could I?

I get New York is a big series but I feel like they rushed Romano and Swanson back. Their rehab stats were far from ideal. The bullpen has been rolling fine and they sure could have used Pearson yesterday.

Why wasn't Chad Green used for the save? , he was well rested.
They should have sent down Mayza , he has been struggling so far, instead of Big Nate, Pearson has been lights out so far and would have shut down the Yankees last night. You dont't put Swanson in a save situation immediately after coming off the the IL.

So was it a mistake when they did the exact same with Romano one day earlier? It worked with him.

They got lucky on that one as JR allowed base runners. They went to the well one too many times with Swanson, it backfired.
They got lucky on that Romano situation two days ago big time! As always Romano makes things much more interesting than they need to be… But I’ll give him a break he just got off the IL.

Jeff Blair was flipping his lid over Pearson getting sent down. He was screaming for Nate to get on the phone to quit the Jays and tell his agent to demand a trade.

Aside from the fact that I’ve always thought the Swanson acquisition was a useless move (I don’t care about his swing and miss ratio… It failed my eye test)….. to see Trevor Richards or Tim Mayza instead of Pearson is definitely questionable.

Ultimately the problem was Green - I'm sure there was some sort of "tweak" he was dealing with last night, and that he couldn't go. He would have certainly been used otherwise.

You can't demote Mayza. He has to go through waivers, and he is not clearing waivers (same for Richards, since he was mentioned above as a demotion candidate) Giving either of them away for basically free, after 3 reliable years prior to this would be crazy.

The only pitchers you could demote were Pearson, Francis, or Cabrera. Pearson was just a victim of role. Cabrera (lefty), Francis (longman, swingman). You could argue Cabrera.

There will be an injury soon enough that open a spot for Pearson. The Jays are largely quite healthy as a staff again (which is a good thing given the injuries we see to pitchers across baseball) and they do have some depth in the pen. Injuries will come and the issues from the "numbers" game now, is a nice luxury as injuries will come.

As mentioned above you can't demote Mayza or Richards - they would be claimed immediately.
It probably came down to Cabrera or Pearson, and being lefty helped Cabrera. Probably easier to answer now, but I think I would have rode the hot hand in Pearson. , But I also totally understand keeping two lefty's, especially when you now have Romano, Swanson, Garcia and Green as righty pitchers at the back.

You’re right that totally makes sense.

I wonder if Guerrero is ever actually going to start hitting bombs? What’s it going to take? His power is phenomenal I understand why everyone is patiently waiting… but I must say it’s pretty damn frustrating lol. I wish he was hitting third instead of second and wouldn’t that be something if we could catch a red hot Varsho, and put him in cleanup.

I'm not sure what will get Vlad going. Frustrating approach at the plate. That approach as an 18/19 year old was top notch. Now he is just lost, swinging at bad pitches and pounding grounders.

I know a lot of people want to trade him, but that time may have passed since he's not going to return a boatload of stuff. He is a $20-25M guy this year and next and a pending FA after 2025 - teams aren't going to give up that much to trade for him.. As long as the Jays are in contention. might as well cross the fingers with him and hope he figures it out. Only move him if we fall out of contention this year or next..

I would not give him an extension until he was officially a FA. If we lose him so be it.
I have a bad feeling he'll be very successful if he winds up elsewhere.

I'm 100% convinced that Vladdy will never be that super star he's made out to be, he'll be a 25 HR man.
