"An option (optional assignment) allows a club to move a player on its 40-man roster to and from the minor leagues without exposing him to other teams. Once a player is added to a team’s 40-man roster, his team has three options, or three different seasons in which the club may to send him to the minor leagues without having to clear waivers."

A general rule without having to look things up, is if the guy is in this 4th partial year in the majors he will not be able to be optioned without going through waivers. For many its the second or 3rd year, because they didn't make the team the first year or two after getting on the 40 man.

The Jays have an experienced pitching staff so there were only 3 guys that could be demoted without being placed on waivers. (Mayza, Cabrera, Francis)
I’ve never been a huge fan of Francis. He looks prone to the long ball. I don’t know the actual stats on that with him. He has good stuff, and I understand the hype coming out of spring training…. But I don’t feel confident with him in gameplay during the season.

I still think we gave up too much for Varsho and should've something more in return.
I think the Jays expected Varsho to be a premeir power hitter from the left side which they totally need

He still may be

he also gives us speed on bases and is the only Jay that can bunt

Add 20 to 30 rbi to his total rbi in runs saved by his stellar defence

This team should start to round into form by the end of April. Romano and Swanson will be back in the bullpen. Jansen will be back to split the catching duties with Kirk. Yariel Rodriguez will take over as fifth starter, and Joey Votto will be on the bench and an important dugout presence. And the schedule will lighten up.
Well, my prognostication was only partly correct (so far), Joey Votto is not with the team, and it remains to be seen whether he will work his way to the team, and although Jansen, Romano and Swanson are back, Swanson has not looked good in his 2 appearances. Nevertheless, the team is playing well, getting great starting pitching, superb defense,, and would you believe, Daulton Varsho is leading their offense. They currently have a better record than the 2 teams that were in last year’s World Series, and better than the Rays, Red Sox and the much ballyhooed Dodgers. Now if only Vladdy and Bo’s bats can come around, they would be in really good shape.

Whoever thought one month ago we would be saying Varsho is the hottest hitter. Good for him. That was probably very difficult to see Arizona in the World Series last year. Seems like such a nice guy. Complete makeover. He plays this game with a shot of adrenaline all of a sudden. I think this is amazing.

Is this part of improving the fan experience?

I'll by a sausage from one of the trucks outside the dome before going in. Mind you, this probably gives them carte blanche to raise their prices. When I went last year, they were $3/dog and $4/sausage.
We used to the same thing. Also used to bring in our own snacks, not too sure if this permitted any more.

As long as it's in a container you can bring anything in now. Some people are even bringing their own garnishes on tuesday nights for cheap hot dog night.

I don’t know but anyone else, but I’m actually looking forward to seeing what Varsho is going to do today.

Toronto is 10-8 so far but that's a bit of a mirage as our run differential is -15. 14 home runs in 18 games played is not going to cut it over the long haul.

Disagree. We got best defence outfield in the game and best starting pitching staff and one of the best relieving staffs

This makes for good baseball as there will be few boring blowouts and games will go down to the wire

We could have our top 4 hitters hit 100 homers total

That is enough offence to do the job to get into the playoffs

but it will be another short playoff run as we will get shutout by the games best pitchers

went to a game

rebuild is very well done

you can walk anywhere

the mesh to protect the fans IS INVISIBLE

but

the prices for food at the skydome are crazy

slice of cheese pizza is $8 and then it gets worse, much worse

they do have loonie dog day if you want junk food but bring your own toppings if you want something other than mustard and ketchuip

buy cheap seats and just walk around and bring your own food, it is allowed, or eat outrside from the vendors

we need more speed and contact hitters if we are going to be a short ball team

you do not need homers to win the big show

in the playoffs you have only the best pitchers so they can stop the sluggers but will not stop speed and contact hitters who sacrifice themselvesmove to move the runners
