Semien Woods Richardson might end up being the bigger piece they gave away.
Potentially. He's only 20 and not looking out of place in AA. I do think we gave up a bit too much when I see what the Dodgers paid for Turner/Scherzer or what the Yankees gave up for Rizzo and Gallo.

Bichette is far from a very, very good SS. At some point he'll need to pushed over to 2nd whether he likes or not. Next to Tatis he has more errors then anyone SS in baseball. Maybe they even try move him to 3rd in order not to hurt his feelings, depends on where they plan to put Jordan Groshans.
His defense is subpar I agree. He should be moved to 2nd.

I think Gallo is the most over rated player in baseball.

yes he can hit HR’s, but has a life time BA of .210.

in 2016 Chris carter hit 41 HR’s with an average of .222, couldn’t even get a contract until the Yankees gave him a 1 year contract at 3.5 million.

Why are people now making such a big deal out of Gallo?

you can’t look at a trade that way. There’s so many variables.
How much depth do you have in your farm system to make those pieces expendable?

If those spots are clogged up at the major league level, do they have even have a chance at your club in the next bunch of years at that position (if your a first basemen, no chance).

much depends on your needs..

Do you need to make a splash to appease your current fan base?

where are you in your current plan for your compete window?

What’s going behind the scenes? Are they guys that seem to be going down the wrong path? They party to much and don’t seem to be taking the job seriously?

I’s there some health issues that haven’t been exposed but the club knows about?

here’s what we know about the trade;

the jays gave up some prospects that may or may not turn out to be something, and even if they do turn out to be something, would it be in time for their plan of the “compete window over the next 3 or 4 years “. What the jays did get was get a proven front line starter that fits into their timeline of their compete window.

This Jays team eats off bad teams, but they still have to prove they can consistently beat average to good teams

No chance Ray and Semien get you a top tier start like Barrios. A team that's a seller isn't going to trade for two guys who are both two month rent-a-players. No chance in hell. Even buyers at the trade deadline aren't giving up that much for two month renta-a-players anymore. It's just not worth it.
a star rental is worth one top prospect and they could of sold two star rentals so that is two top prospects

esp this year where it was a sellers market

so they gave up 4 top prospects for this one run that may not get them into playoffs

but, if they do make wild card they may go to the big show with their talent

if they do then it was worth it as that will sell out skydome all next year which is big $

follow the $

it is a crap shoot

Gallo walks a LOT, (he currently leads MLB with 77 in 99 games, 7th in On Base Percentage in the AL), and won a Gold Glove in fielding last year. He's pretty much a white Jose Bautista, but a left handed hitter. That was a big deficiency for the Yankees; they had no left handed hitters who could take advantage of the short porches right field at home and in Boston.

Matz be dealing (could become an important #5 starter down the road).
Springer smacking the shit out of the ball!!

I like the way this team is shaping up.
We might still be 1 year away from it though

Springer is on fire. AL Player of the Week last week and looks like he wants to win it this week too. Jays have a soft schedule the rest of the season and are only 3 games out of the second wild card. The only downer in the last week is that Brad Hand has been lousy in his two appearances so far.

Okay, I never said it was a bad move for the Yankees, but I still think Gallo is over rated. He does walk a lot, in fact the most in baseball this year, but his name gets thrown around like he's star, and I just think his BA can't be over looked the way it is.

What difference does his batting average make if he's OBP is around .380??

After this crucial series against the Bosox, jays are gonna go back to a 5 man rotation, who will be odd man out to the BP.

Matz or Stripling, Strips has been more consistent than Matz after making delivery adjustments . I would move Matz to the BP.

I don't know about you and your baseball IQ sometimes Phil.

Just think, when you get more hits as opposed to walking, you drive in more runs. The runners advance much more. Guys from second score instead of runners at 1st and 2nd. Get the idea??
I really have to question your IQ. There's a lot more to baseball then that.
Gallo was a gold glove winner in 2020, so you're getting a player that can give you good defense.
And like I previously said he's also elite in slugging (hitting 40+ homers in 2017 and 2018), .OPS and .OBP.

Apparently the Yankees agree with me or they wouldnt have given up their #14 and #15 prospects in their farm system: https://www.nj.com/yankees/2021/08/...ankees-in-anthony-rizzo-joey-gallo-deals.html

And the trade is already paying dividends cause last night Gallo hit the game winning homerun: https://www.mlb.com/news/joey-gallo-hits-1st-yankees-homer
