I cringe when I hear more at bats in the number 2 spot. It might mean 18 more at bats over 162 games (once every 9 games). That being said, the number 2 spot has been filled by many stars over the years. What it can do is reduce rbi chances in the first inning. Unless Springer gets to second base, Vladdy is hitting without any one in scoring position. The number 3 hitter has a much better chance of an rbi situation...and of course the number 4 hitter can only bat if someone got on base in the first inning.
Spot on.

I estimated 10 ABs over a season as I imagine more last outs will be by guys lower down in the order or pinch hitters for an 8 or 9 hitter as opposed to your model of it being equally spread out.

This team has talent....but what they lack is that certain intangible that wins close games and steps up - not down - when playing better teams. Sure it is fun and statistic pampering to hammer the Texas Rangers. But then you fold against the Red Sox. Some of this is on Montoyo and some of it is on "the were having fun" group win or lose and some of it is on the bullpen pitching tentatively.
I never did like the way Vladdy, Lourdes and Teoscar have fun fraternizing with the opposing players before the game. The opposition is the enemy and you must have your game face on. It should be like the NHL years ago, fraternize with the opposition you get fined by your club. Players back then, if they spot some opposing players at the same bar/restaurant, they would leave to another establishment.

They don't have a player whose head is in the game every moment the way Donaldson's was. I remember a game where JD was on first base, batter hit a shallow fly ball to center field, he noticed that the outfielder caught the ball on his heels,-momentum carried him backwards, JD tagged up and easily beat the throw to 2nd base, most players would have stayed at first base.

OK...heres my plan...the Jays are not buyers - Joey Gallo is gone - and they are not sellers because of wrong messaging - so I am throwing Charlie under the bus. Fire him and make it clear that the Jays are not happy with mediocrity or .500 Charlie is not inspiring...get a kick ass manager

I'd settle for a better pitching staff. They can't beat the plus .500 teams with either this bullpen or - consistently - this starting staff.

TBH, I think the plan was for this to be another growing year and maturing year and not a solid playoff year. However the team is very exciting to watch and people's hopes got raised too high with some (moderate) early success. I think that I'd predicted about 85-87 wins, which is pretty close to their current pace.

I believe that next year is the year that management had planned for them to be a legitimate playoff team. (I can't believe that I'm defending this management. LOL)

And I think that they need solid arms way more than another good bat, a la Gallo.

I didn't pay attention to the 1st game, but in the 2nd one Vladdy had 3 plate appearances with a total of 1 baserunner for him.

Now is the perfect time to fire him. He was never brought he because they felt he could manage games well. They brought him because he was down to earth guy, they felt could work well with the young kids. Now that they're about to turn the corner, I'd fire him now so it doesn't look bad once the team is winning and it's hard from a PR point of view.

Not mention, it's Joey fucking 'Gallo. I don't understand why he's even getting this much attention. He has la life time batting average of .211

There are other guys that can get you 35 HR's with a .211 average. In 2016 Chris Carter bat .222 with 41HR's go into his FA year. He could barely get a contact until the Yankees offered him 1 year 3.5 million which is nothing in baseball.

They gave way two top prospects, this Berrios pitcher better be good. If you trade Marcus Semien, the chances of him returning are less than zero and you're not going to get a top level manager in the middle of the season.

Brad Hand eh, Reese McGuire must be happy...running and ducking incoming eggs.

I've been following The twins this as I thought they would be a contender. Shows you what I know, lol.

Anyways I posted on here some time ago that they should take a run at Berrios.

From Espn.com '' Berrios was Minnesota's unquestioned ace, a two-time All-Star who has been as durable as any pitcher in the game and remains under team control through the 2022 season. ''

I was also hoping on a return of Josh Donaldson. But he got two more years left ay 23 million per season and is still bothered by calf issues but outside of that he has produced at close to his best levels.

Anyways this a clear message to the fans that they are going to take a serious run this year. Hopefully the Jays can start to play to a full house soon at home. Their fans certainly deserve it and they have a very exciting team. The future looks great for the Jays.

Pains me to see Austin Martin go though. He has all the tools to be a bona fide super star in this league. Short stops and centre fielders of his ability don't come around very often. But I guess you have to give something to receive something.
