It's official Jays parted way with Gibbons. Would not surprise me if Gibby ended up somewhere in Atlanta in the near future. I wish the Braves all the best in the post season.

Apparently Osuna slapped his gf and pushed her down a flight of stairs. Shapeyero didn't want to deal with the fallout, MLB did him a favour by suspending Osuna for 75 games. There's no video evidence so it's hearsay.

Osuna is on a hot tin roof, if he blows saves in the playoffs his team mates may turn against him.

In better news I like the way the Jays young Ity/American pitchers Gaviglio and Pannone (loaf) are working out. I can see them making commercials for TLN like Sergio Momesso did when he played for the Leafs. Anyone remember commercial he made for Cadillac at Yorkdale now Midtown Honda?
I V apparently does not cut it. There are various stories out there but like yours they are stories until someone comes forward that actually knows what happens. People will read your post and miss the word "apparently" and spread the story as fact. I believe something happened but have no idea what the real truth is, but that is what I want to see, the real story, not what may have happened.

Here
I still feel very conflicted about Osuna.

Beating up the mother of your child goes pretty low in my books. And I wonder what could have provoked it...

And yet, when I first saw him pitch in 2015, I had this very strong intuition that I was watching the next Mariano Rivera.

And I till think so! :smokin:

Wow. That is sure going to make the Jays more competitive.

Is Eric Wedge, another shapeero yes boy, the odds on favourite to be manager? shapeero always denied that that is why he brought him into the org?

For sure.

Listening to the Jeff Blair show this morning and he was going on about Gibby being a shitty manager when dealing with young players. Fortunately Kevin Barker put him in his place. They got in to a good argument.

Most managers learn their trade in the minors and work with numerous young players, many who never make it to the bigs. In order to get to be a major league manager they must prove themselves at that level, which means working with young players.

Jeff Blair can be a real dick sometimes.

I wonder why they did not just make today Gibbons last day? Instead he is going down to Tampa for 3 meaningless games. Hale can manage

Sort of like the management telling him "We can't get rid of you soon enough. Don't bother finishing the season."

It would not be a classy thing to do. (Unless he didn't want to finish the season.)

Reid-F, Gaviglio and Borucki are promising, the latter especially.
Thought R-F pitched well yesterday, thought he was around the plate and challenged the hitters. He threw 49 pitches in 3.1 innings 1H 1R 1W 5K. The line up he faced was not the Astros best line up and he was on a short leash.

This was my first guess way back when Sharpo just starting his job in Toronto. Need to find someone who could relate well with young spanish speaking players, though. The search for a new manager shouldn't be that hard. Should not be older than 50. Ex-players or ex catchers would be helpful. Spanish speaking a plus but not a requirement. Communicate well with young kids with baby sitting experience. LOL

ANALYTICS
I believe that is the #1 requirement, a manager is knowledgeable of analytics and is willing and able to work with them.

Not what I meant. JUst give him the rest of the season off - so his last memory is the end of yesterday's game. I have been one who has called for his firing in the past. Finishing yesterday was a good way to go - instead of 3 days at the mausoleum in florida

I think that would he tacky on everyone's part for him not to finish the last 3 days.

It gives him a last weekend in the warm weather with his mates to toss back a few.
I know but it's tacky with 3 games to go. Maybe he wants to enjoy those last 3 days as an MLB manager with no pressure on him. Just enjoy the travel spending the time with the young players.

Russell Martin will manage the Jays on the final game of the season tomorrow. Should we read a lot more into this for Martin? Martin could be a good manager one day but not for next year. I doubt it. But, then again what do I know about baseball, lol!

Apparently this has been done before by Torre I believe (read an article about this morning). Gibby is having some fun and figured Martin is owed it for sitting out the month of September.

The races in the NL are making for some great drama:

* Cubs and Brewers are tied
* Dodgers and Rockies are tied

Chances are there could be two tie breaking games on Monday and then the wild card games the next day. Nothing like a winner moves on game.

I like a tie breaking game as this is fair after a long season. For the wild card I wish baseball would make it a 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5. They could have all games on back to back days so the other two division leaders do not have too much time to wait.

Although I agree with your concept, in terms making a fair format for making the actual playoffs, the problem is how deep the playoffs/WS extend into late October. The WS is the ultimate and deciding it by who plays best in 40 degree or colder weather does not seem appropriate. Extending the preliminary series makes that more of a likelihood.
