Oh that explains why the people walk with an extra pop in their step in Denver, they are just floating along without all that gravity holding them down. Peyton should be able to throw into the end zone from his own 20 there lol. It's actually the lower air density at higher altitudes, not lack of gravity.
Same with Mexico City. Bob Beamon shattered the long jump record by 2 feet.

Here
I think that, ultimately, a team's win/loss record for the season is the best indicator of the team's post season prospects. W/L simply and neatly calculates and measures a team's strengths, weaknesses, etc. after completing a 162 game schedule.

W/L is a way of saying fuck the statistics and just look at the facts... eh?

But when comparing NL and AL teams, you also have to take into account that there is much greater competitive parity in the AL than in the NL. In the AL there was only one team with a 71/91 (20 games under .500) or worse record; in the NL there were six.

Everything considered, I like the BJ's chances. But in baseball, particularly in a short series, anything can and frequently does happen.

Bring on the show!

Anyone who thinks he shouldn't be given a chance as a starter, doesn't know what they're talking about, and I can assure you him and his agent make that clear to blue jays brass.
I can assure you that if the Jays want to keep him as a closer, they will make it worthwhile to him and hi9s agent.

The Jays are stumbling into the playoffs. First the bad/wrong decision to rest the starters for 2 straight games, now letting a guy pitch on one day's rest to give him an ego boost. All in the midst of trying to finish first and clinch home field advantage.

For a team that pride's itself on "taking care of business," this is Ri-god-damn-diculous.
Do not agree, respectfully of course.

Once they clinched the East, they were not concerned with the outcome of the last 2 or 3 games. It was all about getting ready for the playoffs along with the gracious attempt to do right by Buehrle. Do not underestimate the brownie points the management scored with the rest of the team by trying to help a player that was clearly loved by his teammates.

Players will play harder when they know management respects the players. (Maybe also sign for cheaper?)

It will depend on if the Astros win and Texas loses. A lot going on. There may have to play a playoff game for the west.
I am happy as long as LAA is not in the equation.

There is a clear bias towards Trout by Americans who vote for MVP. They lose what little traction they may have had if Trout leads them to the playoffs along with Donaldson's simply run of the mill (for an average player) September.

Colorado should have an asterisk because they are so high above sea level that gravity is much lighter (sort of like weightlessness in space).
I think the concept of "lighter gravity" is not understood by many and has not been given enough relevance.

It looks like around $63M total for all the playoff teams.
If Trudeau was Prime Minister he would pass a law to take the bonus from the rich players and give it to the poor players because it is only fair. Why should a rich player like David Price be entitled to a full share?

Yes, only the Big Bang Theory guys understand. Here is an experiment. Take your golf ball and hit it at sea level. It goes 100 yards. Take the same golf ball and hit it in Mexico City, it goes 200 yards.

Here's the thing. Winning MLB games is not the same as turning on and off a tap.
These guys have been playing with amazing intensity and determination for the last 60-70 games and it is only going to get more intense in the playoffs.

Yet you advocate keep the pedal to the metal as opposed to letting the boys have a chance to recharge for the really important games.

You'd be the type of manager the players would lose respect for.

I would give EE one more shot at number 40. Did Gibby put in Smoak for "defensive" purposes when the Jays are 11 runs behind?

Did you know Suzuki actually pitched one inning to-day. When I played little league we did crazy things if the last 4-5 games were meaningless.

Anyone know if this pool paid by the league or the teams?

It's paid by the fans via the jacked up postseason ticket prices.
60% of the gate receipts from specific postseason games go into the player's bonus pool.

The 60% is calculated from total gate from both Wild Cards Games + first 3 games of all Division Series + first 4 games of both LCS + first 4 games of the World Series.
Gate receipts from all other games are not included in the bonus pool, I guess this is to prevent collusion among players.
Home team keeps the rest.

It depends on what Mark Shapiro's strategy will be when he becomes Blue Jays President. With Beeston it was simple, he wanted to make the Jays the flagship franchise of Canada and everything he did was to that end.

Shapiro did oversee the construction of Jacobs Field so I'm assuming he'll make the push to convert SkyDome to San Siro turf after the 2016 season. It's in the Jays best interest not to wait further.
The rogers centre is already scheduled to get natural grass by 2017

It's called Density Altitude, ask any pilot about it. Why would the same plane take longer to get off the ground in Denver or Mexico City than, say, Dallas, if there was less gravity? Why is it only home run distance in Denver that's talked about, but nothing in any other sport?

I think it was after the 2017 season they were talking about, but they still don't have confirmation they can even do it yet. They started a project with the University of Guelph last year, but nothing has really come out of it yet that anyone has talked about. They are talking about putting an all dirt infield in, like Tropicana has, for next year, now that the Argos are leaving.
