I think that, ultimately, a team's win/loss record for the season is the best indicator of the team's post season prospects. W/L simply and neatly calculates and measures a team's strengths, weaknesses, etc. after completing a 162 game schedule.
W/L is a way of saying fuck the statistics and just look at the facts... eh?
But when comparing NL and AL teams, you also have to take into account that there is much greater competitive parity in the AL than in the NL. In the AL there was only one team with a 71/91 (20 games under .500) or worse record; in the NL there were six.
Everything considered, I like the BJ's chances. But in baseball, particularly in a short series, anything can and frequently does happen.

Once they clinched the East, they were not concerned with the outcome of the last 2 or 3 games. It was all about getting ready for the playoffs along with the gracious attempt to do right by Buehrle. Do not underestimate the brownie points the management scored with the rest of the team by trying to help a player that was clearly loved by his teammates.

It's paid by the fans via the jacked up postseason ticket prices.
60% of the gate receipts from specific postseason games go into the player's bonus pool.
The 60% is calculated from total gate from both Wild Cards Games + first 3 games of all Division Series + first 4 games of both LCS + first 4 games of the World Series.
Gate receipts from all other games are not included in the bonus pool, I guess this is to prevent collusion among players.
