According to the blurb in today's Sun, he got hammered brutally by the Tigers in such a way and to such an extent that it makes one wonder if there isn't some arm problem or mechanics issue over and above his earlier velocity issues. If this is the case, it's good-bye forever or at least until he sorts himself out.
I haven't seen this Carreno guy before. I heard that he is a minor league middle reliever. Is that the kind of depth that the Jays have? That if one of their starters goes down or is ineffective they have to get a minor league middle reliever? Or was Carreno flying under the radar?
Is it not possible for us to acquire a starter? It be so good to have a reliable 3rd starter behind Romero and Morrow. Might as well trade Snider if we are not going to use him.
He started 23 games in AA last year.

Carreeno has a good fastball and slider. He needs to get a better changeup so he's got 3 effective pitches.

1 - 0 record. Good start to the season. Hopefully the cold weather was the reason for the wildness (11 walks). Hopefully next time Rajai is asked to bunt he'll keep his mind in the game, rather than becoming a spectator. Rasmus hit the ball hard a couple of times, but right at the outfielders.
Fark, my cable went out on that channel in the 12th, pissed me off som' fierce. Got on the phone to a bud and I could listen to him watching it.
great game to watch. Exciting 9th inning rally to tie, some great pitching both sides. Farrell great moves, Davis to PR(although he fell asleep on the bunt attempt), and the 5 infielders. JP's home run to win it. Good start to the season. On the downside, Rasmus looks lost at the plate,he sure is an improvement defensively but currently a liability offensively. I can see him in the minors before long if he doesn't get it together.
Thames leaves a lot to be desired. Last year when he hit in front of Bautista and saw a lot of fast balls, he looked good, anywhere else in the line up not so good. Defensively, he was a liability last year, don't see any change so far.
Yesterday Laurie 0 for 6 with a run scored, Rasmus 0 for 7. I am not basing my opinion not on one game but on the observation that he looked uncomfortable. If he ever starts to hit he will be one hell of an asset but a stint in the minors might get the bat going again.

Defensively I like Rasmus. Offensively, he is going to have to produce a lot more than he has to date. I want him to succeed, but watching him bat yesterday, I saw nothing positive. He didn't hit in the spring, while Laurie was awesome. There is enough talent in the organization that they could send Rasmus down and maybe bring Gose up. If Thames doesn't hit and Snider does, I can see them changing places too. Just my opinion!
