Unbelievable, they score 9 runs and were still pathetic with RISP today. I really thought the Jays were gonna come back in the 12th when Nelson lost command and the Rays had emptied the bullpen. Jays got 3 BBs in that inning but couldnt cash any in. Tabby and Jamie were discussing on the telecast whether Bautista should have bunted or not, why take the bat out of his hand when he had been having a good day at the plate.

maybe JP will let him go with all that money same as he did with B.J
Keeping Wells around is "bad karma". Also, the fans are booing him every time (which is many) when he pops out or strikes out.

Damn! The Jays imploded again. This was a very winnable game. Hey, Vernon "0 for 4" Wells, could have used some offensive help to-night.

When will Doc Halladay ever learn that he cannot allow 3 runs and hope to have any chances in hell of winning?

can you imagine his reaction when there are runners in scoring position and Wells comes to the plate ?????
Similar bad feelings for the batters when Carlson is pitching. Another loss and BS last night. Shame as it ruined what would have been an excellent result for Richmond.

Interesting pitching matchup in to-day's Jays/Yankee game. A future Jay pitching superstar versus a hot and cold Yankee pitcher.

Damn! A potential future Jay HOF second baseman just messed up a double play ball and Jeter scored on that play.

Jays leading 4-0 in the 2nd inning. Overbay batting cleanup has already hit a 2 run homer. This should be in the bag with Halladay pitching.

That was interesting to look at. He had some good picks in there, excluding the two underpaid Blue Jays outfielders.

Jays could have 5 picks next year in rounds 1 and 1A of the MLB draft assuming Marco Scutaro and Rod Barajas leave as free agents.

Quote From TSN:
"1st round - Blue Jays selection
1st round - Compensation for the loss of Marco Scutaro through Type A Free Agency
Supplemental round - Compensatory pick for James Paxton
Supplemental round - Compensation for the loss of Marco Scutaro through Type A Free Agency
Supplemental round - Compensation for the loss of Rod Barajas through Type B Free Agency

2nd round - Blue Jays selection
2nd round - Compensatory pick for Jake Eliopoulos

3rd round - Blue Jays selection
3rd round - Compensatory pick for Jake Barrett"

I saw JP talking about that, but what good is collecting draft picks that you can't sign? It stands to reason that the picks in their respective draft slots will want more than their equivalent received the year before, so if they couldn't afford them at their slot this year, how will they next season?
Well, Beeston wanted to change draft philosophy this year by going after "the best player available". When you do this you are going after some cranky, ornery people that other teams avoid because they are known to be headaches and/or headcases to sign.
Jays probably offering well above slot money to all these guys if what they did in other rounds is any indication.

In past team has focused only on drafting players who were known to be easy lay downs in terms of signability.
Look at 2007 draft where Jays took Ahrens(16) and Arencibia (21) who have both been kind of disappointing. Jays and a lot of other teams avoided Rick Porcello (27) because it was known he would be a complete pain in the ass to deal with. But the Tigers took a chance and gave him something like 5 years and 8 million and it looks like a huge bargain for them.
If Jays spent $8 million on Porcello in 07 it would have been better money spent compared to giving Frank Thomas 20 million for 600 at bats.

Since 2009 is now a write-off, what are the Jays' greatest needs for 2010. I'll start.

The Jays need a CF, 1B and 3B who can HIT.

First the Jays need to change the turf to real grass down at Skydome.

Players ...

I think Morneau can be had easier then one may think. The Twins will be worried about keeping hometown boy Mauer around. I do not think they will sign both, unless Mauer gives the hometown/team discount.

Could the Jays bring Reed Johnson back ?

3B - Take a look at FAs or maybe someone in the system ?

I think they also need another starter.

Hardly someone who's going to put them over the top. Platoon player at best.

I agree, Morneau would be great and pop at the corners is also needed.

Wells is un-dumpable at CF and will continue at that position for the foreseeable future.

Re 1B: Overbay is not the answer and has not developed much. A solid slugging 1B is probably essential since Rios and Wells can no longer be relied upon for power and production. Ruiz has looked interesting so far, but I am sure there must be a big downside to him which will emerge and explain his long tenure in the minors.

Re 3B: Yup. We now need a solid hitting and fielding 3B for ALL reasons. Encarnacion looks nowhere like filling the shoes of Rolen.

And BTW, natural grass will NOT grow in Skydome. Been tried before. Good players are more important than grass anyway.
