Rios does get an occasional hit here and there, but not a #3 hitter. Now Wells' bat has gone cold.
He's doing better tonight. 2 for 3 with a 2 out RBI.

I'm surprised that with the injury to Barrett they haven't called up J.P. Arencibia to have a look and get him some experience in the Show...
Well, he's only hitting .243 and he's got 3 errors already playing for Las Vegas 51's. Not ready for big show by any means.

He'll be doing really good if he makes the team out of spring training next year and you don't want the clock ticking on his 6 years till free agency till he's clearly better than your #2 catcher.

Ryan comes in and promptly hits the first batter. When was the last time Ryan had a "clean" 3 up 3 out save? All his saves are messy.

Yikes!!!

Another blown save.

Has he lost his ability to spot his pitches or is he somehow tipping them off?

Good teams find ways to win with a 3 run lead in the 9th inning in regulation time. This was an unnecessary messy win full of self inflicted wounds.

Playing the role of arm chair manager...

I think Ryan has had enough opportunities to prove he is up to the job of closing games. Time to move him into a role where he can fine tune his game.

Not too sure what the options are in regards to a closer, but there are a few candidates in the likes of Downs, Frasor or even Carlson.

On the bright side, there was a passable and much improved start from David Purcey which bodes well for the future.

What's the latest recovery news re McGowan and Jansen?

This team needs BJ Ryan, and he definitely needs to work on his stuff to get it right again. Plenty of people have been saying to release him. I think he needs to do a rehab assignment in AAA to regain his form. It is not good for the team or for him to leave him in the closer's position. I still remember him on the first year with the Jays, and would love to see him retain that dominant stuff that he once had. He was never about velocity (he is still hitting 88 mph, which is only a couple of points down from where he was). If he can get his control back, then he will be an asset to the team.

On another note, messy or not, a win is a win! In the past, they would roll over and take the loss, and those early season losses would come back to haunt them late in the season when counting how many games out of playoff contention. I turned the game off (cuz it was too painful to watch) at the end of the ninth inning, and then would look at the score in the morning. I was pleasantly surprised to see they got the win. Getting the win in these situations is something they haven't been doing in the past, and hopefully this run will continue for some time. They are in 1st place, and it is awfully nice to still see that, this late in April!

Jays fans are going to like Millar. He is a good guy and his teammates will enjoy having him around. This is a low risk-high reward type of signing that will pay off. I know he is still adored in Boston, they even brought him back to throw out the first pitch in game 7 of the 2007 ALCS - while he was still a member of the Orioles. Good signing.
Hmmm, thanks for making me look good Kevin. :p
