Time to admit the start wasn't reflective of the team? This is a nice Jays team, and they may still contend, but they're not the '92 or '93 Jays. On paper, they're still a fourth place team. Let's let this play out and see how it ends, shall we?

It's great to see the Jays seeming to be a vital team in the market again, even if it is a fantasy. Toronto would seem to be desperate for a winner, yet they still won't pay to watch a first place team? Please don't ever let me see any of you criticize another sporting market. Toronto is a nonexistent sports market. It's not even a good hockey market. It's a Laffs market. That is all.
blah blah blah tell that to the 2008 Tampa Bay Devil Rays

P.S. is official I hate the red sox

The whole team now seems to have gone cold, at least when there are runners in scoring positions. They can't score runs. That includes Lind and Hill.

Jays rooky pitchers don't match up well with the better teams. Time to send Ray and Cecil down and bring Janssen and Romero back up (as was originally supposed to happen).
Yes their bats cooled off in Fenway, but as salsa said earlier, good pitching can stop good hitting. Not that the Sox had outstanding pitching but they took care of business. Wake had one of his best outings of the year (his near no-no was his best). Penny was nothing spectacular and as I predicted, Jays did hit him. He basically got by with one pitch - his fastball and Jays being a fastball hitting team shoud have been able to score more. Then Lester was much better than he has been all season, not near his best but he left runners on base, got a nice double play in one inning. As for the bullpen, Sox relievers have been near lights out all season long. Their starting pitching of late has been much better, so that may be a sign that things are improving.

One series against Boston isn't going to make or break the Jays season. However, you can't deny they have had a very easy schedule to this point. Only 6 games v. Boston and NY and are 1-5. 24 games against the AL Central while Boston has played 7. Boston is 4-8 on the west coast and 21-8 in the rest of their games. They have had their last west coast trip. All due respect to the Jays, they have put up some nice numbers, beaten the teams they are supposed to beat (AL Central) but check their schedule the next few months. I see a lot of Boston, NY Yankees, TBay, LA Angels, who are getting better of late, inter league play coming up and they play some good teams from the NL East. Their road gets much tougher and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. That young pitching staff won't hold up all season long. Once some of their pitchers start making their way back to the lineup, that shoud help.

It is only one series v. Boston, I know I am not looking too far ahead because the Jays can play well against the Sox. However, I like the road ahead for the Sox better than the one Toronto has to head down.

it will be nice to have some fresh arms back in the rotation lately it has been Doc & the kids......

let's hope the guys remember this series next time the Red Sox are in town and I look forward to a different rotation match up...

p.s. I had no idea Boston had such a good bullpen
Yes I think Jays will be stronger when they get their pitchers back, no doubt. Then you also have to think the Yankees pitchers are going to get it together as time goes on as well, as are the Sox. Yankees are hot but they have been clobbering the Orioles in 2 different series and the Twinkies. However, since Arod came back they seem to have turned things around. It will be interesting to see how they do away from that launching pad. WTF is up with Damon? I think Bud better give him a test, he has been raking, hitting bombs, something is up with him. I know it is a contract year and he plays in that new park, but it had been getting ridiculous.

Next weekend could be a different story back at Rogers when Boston comes in. Sox struggle to be a .500 team on the road and maybe they will get Doc in one game. Jays still worry me when they play Boston. You have to think too, that for guys like Cecil and Ray, pitching in Fenway for the first time could have been a little intimidating. Sox young stud reliever Daniel Bard looked pretty nervous the other night in his Fenway debut. He was much better on the road last week.

As for Sox bullpen, yes they have assembled a nice staff in there. That trade they made - Coco for Ramirez has worked out very well so far. As Eckersley said last night, you can honestly pick any one of 5 guys and put them into the 8th inning setup role. Big difference from last season where the pen was not good. Now if they could only get their starters back on track (Lester and Beckett).

56. That is the number of runners left to die on the bases in the 3 games against Boston. Getting on base isn't the problem, getting them home is a HUGE problem. Has anybody seen RIOS or WELLS? Where are they?:(

Just a quick off-topic question ...

As Eckersley said last night,
Hi boys.

I'm not a big sports fan, but I've been reading a little bit of the sports threads since I've been a member here in the last 6 months. I know this thread is about the Jays, but I just want to ask one quick question. Maybe I'm too young (I'm 23), but I seem to remember that Eckersley was the all-time great closing pitcher for the OAKLAND A's ... so why the hell is he on the Boston sports channel going rah-rah-go Red Socks?!? Shouldn't he be on some Bay Area channel waving pom-poms for the Athletics?!? Isn't him going all root-root for Boston some kind of sports treason? Wouldn't that be kind of like Wayne Gretzky becoming a sportscaster for the Calgary Flames home channel?

I'm just confused, and if you guys could clear that up for me I'd appreciate it ... and then go back to making posts rah-rahing the Blue Jays (who I hope win the division this year just to shut up the American baseball fans who don't give us enought credit, lol!!!) :)

Why in blazes are you so young? Wish I was 23 again!

Dennis Eckersley did play for the Red Sox from 1978-84 and finished his career with the Red Sox in 1998. His highlight years were with Oakland where he was also born. Wonder if he is married and if his wife is from the Boston area?

Blue Jays call up Janssen, Inglett, Romero. Janssen to start tomorrow, Romero on Tuesday. Cecil and Ray back to AAA.

Inglett replaces Snider. Hopefully he'll be back quickly with a better performance. That's what worked for Lind last season.

All in all excellent news.

Eck was working in the NESN studio until recently. He is filling in on the game broadcasts while Jerry Remy gets over a health issue. Remdog had lung cancer surgery last fall and has had some complications relating to that. Dave Roberts, who will forever be remembered for his steal of second base in the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees, also fills in for Remdog and I believe he will take over from Eck soon.

Eck does a pretty good job in the booth. He isn't afraid to say something negative about a player or a team, including the Sox. Last year he ripped on Manny pretty good when he went into operation 'shutdown', prior to being dealt to LA.

Well, you could always come visit me and see if you could recapture some of that youth. ;)

But thanks for explaining that to me. I had a sneaking suspicion that he played for the Red Socks before I remembered. Of course, 1978-1984 was way before I was ever born, which is why I don't remember it, lol! I wonder where his wife (if he has one) is from too ... if she's also from Oakland like he is, then it would still feel like sports treason to me to be working for the Boston broadcast station, but hey, that's just me, and nobody listens to me for sports opinions (and with good reason, lol).

Okay, back to the regularly-scheduled thread. Go Blue Jays! All the way to the Fall Classic!!! (Shut those arrogant Boston and New York fans up!!!) :)

He is twice divorced. We Sox fans aren't arrogant. We're just better than everyone else. :p

The Blue Jays cannot compete against the big boys. They are still just "the best of the rest".

I was afraid this would happen. SHUTOUT! Looks like the RIOS and WELLS disease is contagious.:(
This was an even worse hitting performance than the Jays put up in Boston. At least in Boston they could hit, just not in the clutch. Tonight they couldn't even hit period. This is the game the Jays should have come out blazing. If they couldn't hit a medicore pitcher like this, I cringe to think of how bad they are going to do against Lowe and Jurrjens. Amazing how a team can have such a huge turn around on offense in a span of a few days, going from leading the league in hitting to hitting like a pee-wee team.
What was the record of the losing streak ?

Another great pitching performance by Roy Halladay is wasted again. How many times has he pitched a great game only to get a no-decision or the loss again? Crap run support again. Just a rant.

Agreed.

Carlson messes things up again! According to MLB.com the lead off double he allowed was plum in the middle of the plate. So 3 losses to him now and a poor ERA.

Still shouldn't have come down to that. Seems a bit like other seasons now with good pitching and an inability to score runs, even against mediocre pitchers. I thought Cito had changed all that? :(
