Re. Pitchers:
Casey Janssen and Ricky Romero are going to start at Double a New Hampshire on Tuesday and Wednesday next week and after that they are likely coming back to jays in starting rotation to take over from Robert Ray and Brett Cecil.

If Tallet keeps doing well in starting role, then when Litsch comes back in June he will likely go to the bullben in long and middle relief and Tallet will stay in starting rotation.
That's interesting. Where did you hear that?

Oh, I was listening to the game on the radio and Jerry Howarth passed on the New Hampshire Fisher Cats info about Janssen and Romero starting next week there. Then they were speculating on what would happen when Litsch comes back in June and both of them were of the opinion that Tallet would stay in the starting line up if he keeps pitching so well.

Thanks. Sounds logical but we will need to hear things officially then. :)

Even more of a dilema later in the year when Marcum and McGowan return.

IF McGowan returns. Ever.

Marcum would be ahead of schedule, so I would think Jays would baby his arm and keep him on a limited pitch count. I don't think either pitcher will be much in the mix this season.

Not that bad, compared to:

Lester = 6.31
Beckett = 6.75
Dice-K = 12.79
Penny = 6.90
Wakefield = 2.93
Masterson = 5.28

:eek:

The bad news about all this is those ERA's will significantly come down as the season progresses.
Translation = more wins for Yanks and Sox

just a few things to remember:

Toronto, leads the majors in runs (199) and batting average (.292), second baseman Aaron Hill(notes), who leads Toronto in batting average (.351) and home runs (8) Scutaro is batting leadoff because of his on-base percentage (.400 at game time), He had a .351 on-base percentage last year, and this year he leads the AL in walks with 28.

Toronto ERA:

Halladay = 3.29
richmond = 3.29
Romero = 1.71
Tallat - 4.95
Ray = 6.00
Cecil = 1.50
Burres - 14.21
Purcey = 7.01
Litsch = 9.0

No real pattern here. Just some guys doing the job and other guys not so much.

Tampa Bay ERA:

Shields = 4.02
Garza = 3.51
Kazmir = 5.92
Sonnanstine = 5.79
Nieman = 5.65

Could be why they're not leading the AL East this year, despite Longoria.

Birds' ERA:

Guthrie = 4.97
Uehara = 4,42
Eaton = 7.18
Hendrickson = 5.13
Bergerson = 4.98

Worse than average, as might be expected.

My ERA stats are of course now out of date. Cecil's ERA just dropped to 0.64.

I know but is so painful to see the clean up hitter like that (specially after his contract signing) I would like to see Lind batting 4th and Wells moved to 5th
Fine, but Rios has to go to 7th or 8th.

No way does he justify 3rd!!

some interesting facts:

May 10

1909—Pitching for Winchester in the Blue Grass League, Fred Toney worked 17 no-hit innings before winning 1-0 over Lexington.

1934—Lou Gehrig of the New York Yankees played five innings before removing himself from the game because of illness. By that time, he had two homers, two doubles and seven RBIs against the Chicago White Sox.

1967—Braves outfielder Hank Aaron hit an inside-the-park home run. It was the only one of his 755 homers that did not clear the fence.

1970—Hoyt Wilhelm pitched his 1,000th major league game, but the Atlanta Braves lost 6-5 to the St. Louis Cardinals.

1999—Nomar Garciaparra(notes) hit two grand slams and a two-run homer to become the first AL player with 10 RBIs in a game since 1975, leading the Boston Red Sox past the Seattle Mariners 12-4.

2001—Jeromy Burnitz(notes) went 3-for-4 with three homers and six RBIs as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cubs 11-1.

2008—Greg Maddux(notes) of the San Diego Padres became the ninth pitcher in big league history to win 350 games, allowing an unearned over six innings in a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

They sure don't make them like they used to....

Blue Jays are probable pitching matchups for Yankees Series:

Halladay vs Burnett
Richmond vs Pettitte
Tallet vs Sabathia

Burnett is pitching on 5 days rest instead of 4 so he may have his good stuff against Halladay.
Rob Ray is getting pushed back in the order due to day off on Monday; so, Tallet will face Sabathia if I heard Jerry Howarth correctly during Sunday's game against Oakland.
-----

Numbers Speculation From Left Field:
Building on a 22- 12 start...

To make playoffs with a wild card out of AL east will probably take 96 wins.
So in 54 games they have against Tampa/Yankees/Red Sox assuming Jays go 27W 27L then they would need to go
47 W -27 L against the rest of MLB to get to 96 wins. Jays need to improve on their recent numbers versus NL league teams to hit those numbers.

In 2008 Jays went 25W -29L against Tampa/Red Sox/Yankees and
8 W 10 L against NL teams.
