After 44 games a year ago, the Jays were 20-24 and 101/2 games out in the AL East standings. This year, after 44 games, the Jays were only one game better (21-23) but were only five games out of first in the East when play began yesterday.

Now if they can keep scoring a few runs and at least split with the Rays, Yanks and Sawx, they'll have a chance to hang around in the AL East.

Highly successful road trip. Who said they weren't good on the road (whoops that was me!).

Not sure who they are going to have pitching Tuesday as I just read Halladay was due to pitch then. Just as well they have Monday off.

Halladay pitched 2.1 innings today in relief so could be up in the air or maybe the Jays don't think it matters.

will you mind telling us how the Yanks or the sox were doing after 44 games a year ago so we can make a FAIR comparisson?
Read the rest of the post for the relative proximity of the other teams. I'm not here to do your research for you... ;)

if you are going to compare teams it is a good idea to post the numbers for the other teams otherwise your intel is not accurate
Bottom line is the Jays have a better record than at the same time last year and they're closer to the lead (4 out, I believe). Good enough for me.

Also just 3 games out of the wild card.

^^^ Thank you.

Someone who understands and doesn't expect me to go to 5 websites (or more if you factor in the wild card) to provide more info.

This time last year the Jays were struggling with a poor pitching line-up which with new faces later in the season got a lot better. They also had Josh Towers every fifth game.

With last night's game included they are 5 wins better than around this time last year - that's after having played a lot of games on the road. A nice and welcome improvement.

The pitching is a nice improvement as well as playing on the road as compared to this time last year. Now only if the bats were to get going, that would be a sight to behold.

Here is an intriguing stat: Over the past 30 days Texas Rangers lead the American League with 148 RBI's and the Jays trail AL in RBI's over the last 30 days with just 82.

82/148 = @ 55% as many RBI's as Texas; but, Jays are half a game ahead of Rangers in Standings.

Its not how much you hit but when you hit

true, the Jays are improving in their hitting but the numbers with RISP are still low.....by my estimations they should have won 5 or 6 more games than what they have
I'm sure every single team has given away at least a few games that their fans feel they should have won.

The only relevant thing you said is that the Jays are improving their hitting. That's what has held them back but maybe not anymore. Their numbers were atrocious, therefore they are still low overall, even with their recent improvement.

Again what's relevant is that even with their shortcomings (poor hitting and giving away games) they are only 4 games out. They are in the thick of it despite underachieving and their performance is improving.

well then is a good thing that the other teams are playing as poor as the jays so called offense as for your "intellingent" comment about games fans "feel" they "should" have won I am sure even the idiot of a GM that we have will agree that if you are in extra innings and your leadoff hitter start things off with a triple, all that the next 2 hitters have to do is hit a ball to the outfield and they win is really quite simple really.......well maybe not for you :D
