Another weak batting performance especially in the 9th with one out and bases loaded. Glad I wasn't there.
It is painful watching the Jays. Sort of like watching a man in quicksand.

Memo to Jay Hitters: LET THE PITCH HIT YOU, especially if the bases are loaded. If you can't hit pitch, then let pitch hit you.

I guess someone should mention that Jay won. They got decent starting pitching and excellent relief.

Wilkerson and Mench still SUCK!!!!

They played well last night. It was on NASN in Europe.

The only one looking lost was Mench. The Kansas TV commentators were saying this was a game the Jays won with their batting rather than a poor pitching performance by their own ace.

Let's hope they can keep it up. Good to see Boston lose. Only 5 1/2 behind now

not sure what game they were watching BUT Roy Halladay cruised to his fifth complete game of the season and fifth victory of the campaign Friday night. On the night, Halladay allowed one run on four hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out five. He needed just 104 pitches

They were referring to the Kansat City pitcher Zack Greinke, not Halladay, who had started the game with the second best ERA in the AL. They said he'd been pitching well but the Jays batting was just too good on this occasion. They commented that the Jays were doing well even off good pitches.

Thanks in part to one former Jays slugger, who just seems to feast off Red Sox pitching. Jays play Boston, what 18-19 times a year? Man that guy could win at least 10 games on his own the way he hits against them.

2 days off for the bullpen!

Important for the Jays to continue to do well against Kansas as they have a difficult road trip coming up.

They need Stairs back quickly as Mench is not looking like any kind of threat in his place. Of course better to have Wells back but that's not going to happen until late next month now it seems.

Well the offense is finally starting to come around. This team owes a lot to its pitching staff thus far, they could have been out of it by now...

Here
Hhmmmm...

Since the double header with the Indians in Cleveland in which they lost the first game and went as deep into the hole as they have been (5 under - 17/22), the Jays are 11/3!

The offence is starting to come to life and the pitching continues solid... good signs!

Halladay is an absolute gem. Load of skill and a class act.
Maybe he should take lessons from Bonds and Clemens on how a superstar is really supposed to conduct himself.

Hopefully they'll continue to play up to their potential.

One more game to the 1/3 mark of the season. If they play .600 ball the rest of the way they'll end up with 93 or 94 wins.

Once again, the Jays are playing in the toughest division in baseball. Collectively the AL East is 20 games over .500. Never an easy task for our local heroes.

Right now Jays have 2nd best pitching record (by ERA) in all of baseball, whilst Oakland have the best. Jays have the slightly better batting average. Will be really interesting to see how this series plays out.

Oakland swept the Jays, in Toronto so I'm hoping the Jays will want some revenge. 2 out of 3 would be exceptional under the circumstances. 1 out of 3 would be disappointing but not that much of a surprise given their West Coast history.

Then they move on to the Angels with a rather ordinary era and batting performance who are doing much better than those numbers suggest they should be doing (could say the same about Tampa Bay). Jays should sweep them but that's not likely is it.

Hopefully they can return to Toronto still above .500. They'll need to be to remain in contention. :)

It will be interesting to see what they do with the lineup now that Eckstein is back off the DL. There are usually two schools of thought with regard to the situation. 1) No player can lose their job to injury - This is old school thinking, and it looks as though Gibbons is headed in this direction. If this is indeed the case, we'll see Eckstein start at short tonight. 2) Don't mess with a winning combination - Keep Scutaro at short until something changes, be it a loss or Scutaro not playing as well.

Personally, I'd leave Scutaro to play short for the time being. He has been a Godsend since both of the other SS's went down, hitting .308 and playing some great defence. There is no question that Scutaro is better in the field than Eckstein, who is painful to watch make throws over to first.

When JP signed Eckstein as a free agent JP said "We've always liked Eckstein". Eckstein isn't going to be sitting on the bench.

Not so sure about that.

I get the impression Scutaro can help out in a pinch but his numbers will drop over the long haul. Same thing happened when he subbed for Rolen early on. He started off well but in the end they were bringing up guys from AAA to help bail him out. He's not really an everyday player.

But there is something to be said for riding the hot hand, don't you think, shack? You just keep a shorter leash...
Baseball's a streaky game, as is evidenced by salsamarc's relative lack of complaints during the Jays' recent hot stretch! :D
