Glam is right, give this kid time. He'll add some new tools to his game, but for now, he has to keep it simple, sticking with what works for him. In this, he'll gain the confidence to do some of the things that he does when he messes around in practice. I'd sooner have him approach the game this way, than try to be someone he's not and fail trying.
