Hey guys, does young Auston have a slapshot? It seems all his goals (and shots) are from close in.
That's a good thing. It shows he's not afraid to get into the dirty areas and I would sooner have a guy like this, than a guy who shoots from the perimeter.

He has a tendency to shoot along the ice for some reason. Even in a shootout.
He's probably had his most success with this, so he's sticking with what he knows. He scored a nice one on the PP the other night doing just this.

It takes a while (probably a season) for a rookie to figure out the goalie's weakness in shootouts.

Glam is right, give this kid time. He'll add some new tools to his game, but for now, he has to keep it simple, sticking with what works for him. In this, he'll gain the confidence to do some of the things that he does when he messes around in practice. I'd sooner have him approach the game this way, than try to be someone he's not and fail trying.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to watch every Leaf game. I would love to see just once, young Auston fire a laser from 50 feet into the top right hand corner of the net.

Heard that Ron Wilson suffered a stroke. If true, wish him a quick and full recovery.

I watched this and that goal looked like Laine forgot which end he was in. That was no clearing attempt, that was a one timer.
He's the purest of purest shooters. Puck on stick and in an instant blazing fast into the net with no flex, no recoil, nothing. Just all natural instinct took over. That is how good he is as a scorer. Both goalies should fear when he's on the ice. If he really wanted to clear it he would have fired it into the corner. Muscle memory faster than the brain.

Laine is actually a very good defensive winger, despite what some of you are saying.

Not trying to troll here. We can argue who is better this year but given that both are performing well they both project to be very good. I have been nothing but keen on the current Leafs management plan.

Laine's good defensive skills were on display vs Edmonton. He got back well in transition. (of course he then scored on his own team)

I don't think any Leafs fan here has ever doubted that Laine is going to be a great player. All we're saying about the comparison to Matthew are :

1) too early to tell who's going to be the better player, and

2) being a natural centre Matthews suits the Leafs' rebuilding plan better.

Only those (and we know who they are) tried to troll by bringing up moronic statements like who's the true no. 1.

At this point it doesn't really matter who the better player is, both of these guys were drafted to lead their respective teams out of the wilderness. Even though they have been both scoring at a steady pace the Leafs and Jets still can't win and won't even come close to making the playoffs this year.

Such a shame that he's banned.

He was so obnoxious it was inevitable. Just knew it was gonna happen.

Nothing wrong with it, Auston just scored another goal from 5 feet out. Just once, I would love to see him fire a blazer from 50 feet out into the top corner of the net.

Is it worth more if he scores like that?

Sort of like in basketball, the harder they slam the ball through the hoop, the more it is worth.

Damn! The Leafs are just one goal away. If they could only get that one extra goal in even half their games, they would be definitely in the top 16.

AM is only going to get better with time, but I doubt it will be this year.

Imagine, if Lord Truculent hadn't have made the Kessel trade, John Gibson would probably be a Leaf. Not to take anything away from Andersen but Gibson is slightly better. And the arrogant prick is still shooting his mouth off.

JFJ had the misfortune of being GM when Peddie had absolute power, he was only a consultant. Had he been given the reins, the Leafs would be in better shape today.
