I'm more than happy with what Matthews has done so far. He sense of anticipation is highly tuned. But the Leafs need help on defense. Rielly has been much better since being paired with Zaitsev but after them there is a drop off. They have a glut of forward prospect upcoming, they could be used as leverage for a solid defenseman.

Btw, Zaitsev is now 3-0 vs McDavid.

Doesn't really matter how many points either of these two kids rack up, if they can't get their team into the playoffs then the numbers don't mean shit. And neither team remotely looks like a playoff team.

If anything Winnipeg are suppose to be farther ahead of the Leafs in terms of becoming a contender in the playoffs.

Goals win games. Dominant number one centres (and defencemen) win championships. Anybody who has ever played hockey at anything close to a competitive level would happily trade a scoring title for a championship!
A well balanced number one centre wins Cups. Proof? Crobsy over Ovechkin. Crosby 2 cups. Ovechkin Zero. Ovechkin better scorer more career goals than Crosby. Chicago Toews number one centre puts up less points but has more impact as a leader. Same for Kopitar. The common denominator is that number Centres win Stanley Cups. I bet you Ovechkin is willing to trade in his 537 career goals for a few cups.

Sure. Crosby did it himself. No Murray, No malkin, no kessel, etc etc. And Chicago and LA? Those teams were so fucking stacked when they won the cup it's almost comical. Your argument is one of a guy who doesn't even watch the sports news.

Don't be silly.

PS. You might want to check Crosby's playoff stats. Not exactly the "dominating" center you make him out to be.

Do you watch hockey or just come here to join the wannabes?

Ovenchkin doesn't have 1/2 the team those guys had when they won the cup. It's silly and plain dumb to compare Stanley Cup LA or Pittsburgh to the capitals.

Ya I do for 41 years....I also played my whole life

You have no clue bud.....Caps were a solid team for years and all around very comparable to any top playoff team like LA or Pitt....for years Ovechkin wouldnt play DEFENSE and just wanted to score goals..that was the problem...heres some reminders

Sounds like Laine doesnt it??? your sig pic just proves you know nothing....Matthews is a way better play than him overall and will play defense and be a leader

I'll take that over Laine and his goofy face any day....

Only stupid leafs fans would say Auston Matthews is a better player than Patrik Laine , give me a break . both of these players are just rookies.
Patrik Laine is a sniper and pure goal scorer. Patrik Laine is leading the rookies in points. The Leafs are losers and always will be, the worst NHL Franchise ever.

Patrik Laine is a goal scoring machine. Heard he scored a goal last night ---- in his own net. That man is dangerous.

Hey guys, does young Auston have a slapshot? It seems all his goals (and shots) are from close in.

He has a tendency to shoot along the ice for some reason. Even in a shootout.
