Jerry Koosman passed away yesterday just a few weeks from his 84th birthday after ailing from various maladies. He was one of the Miracle Mets of 1969, who beat the powerhouse Baltimore Orioles 4-1. The Mets pitched Koosman, who was 2-0 , along with Tom Seaver 1-1 and Gary Gentry 1-0. I remember watching the great hard-throwing Dr Ron Taylor close out two games without surrendering a hit or a run. I didn't know that he was that good.
Koosman went on to a 222-209 career with 140 complete games and 33 shutouts over 19 years. He was not a superstar but he was a fine journeyman pitcher that provided pitching value to four different MLB teams.
RIP Jerry.
