I posted in this thread to let fans like yourself know that this is the most boring sport ever, but it appears your already know how boring it is.

I feel it is my duty, plus it is fun to yank your(any soccer fan in NA) chain and get these great retorts. lol

Who says Lampard and Gerrard can't play together!!:D
Croatia was pretty feeble in that game, I would not draw too many conclusions.
Also, I think the turning point was the referee not giving Coatia a PK for Johnson's foul on Eduardo. The score was 2-0 at that point. Could have turned things.

I love the way the media is "Bigging up" the three Lions at the moment. It will interesting if they meet a decent team in the 1/4s and get hammered.

While it is good to see England at the World Cup...they still lack a real #1 goalie (sorry David James and Robert Green) and outside of Rooney, well the striking options are bare. After Rooney you have Defoe who I rate (even as an Arsenal fan)...but Darren Bent, Crouch, Carlton Cole, god forbid Emile Heskey?!

At least England is there, will Argentina be? Maradona stinks as a coach and they just keep losing. I don't pay too much attention to the team aside from the results but I wonder why Cambiasso wouldn't be called upon??

I live in Toronto = I know where the Eaton Centre is and the phone number to Pizza Pizza

I do not like mayo = A burger is "cuisine" to me

I do not have sister = I do not have a "sister"

I did not stomp Tom, whoever he is = I live in Toronto but don't know an actual Canadian Icon, whatever that is

I posted in this thread to let fans like yourself know that people who don't understand the social/political/physical abilities of football are the usual small-minded, provincial philistines that the rest of the world laughs at and feels slightly sorry for, but it appears you already know how uninformed you are.

I feel it is my duty, plus its fun to yank your (or any other small-minded, xenophobic non-soccer fan in NA) chain and have guys like you give me these great opportunities. lol

Now back to your regular mundane life.

You soccer fans are touchy, thin skinned.

OK a legit question. It is why I came on here in the first place, then I saw you guys slamming things I liked and ...

you are not interested, forgive me.

The question.

I can easily find the date of the start of the World Cup, but for some reason, maybe I just missed it, I cannot find the date when they have the draw for the groupings.

When will they group the teams/countries for the World Cup ?
If I remember it is usually carried locally by TSN.

I do know somethings about soccer and I can tell you that I learned nothing new today about the game.

I honestly know these things, meaning I did not have to look them up.
Brazil has the most WCs and usually one of the favorites. I know, that was easy.
England thinks they are to soccer what Canada is to hockey, but that was a different era. They also think they should be a favorite to win every WCT. 'Privileged' in other words.
The local Toronto Italians think it is the end of the world if they do not win.
I know which part of town to go to to get in on a good party when a country wins a game.

One more thing. I have been wondering about this for awhile.
I am not an idiot, I know Canada does not have a chance, but two or three WCs down the road is it possible that Canada could shock the Soccer world ?

Last one.
If all eight CFL stadiums had real grass, plus Ottawa, for a total of nine venues, could Canada host ?

To answer your first question the draw for the groups is December 4. Canada's national soccer association is a complete disaster run by idiots who have no clue it seems about soccer or run an organization. One qualification (1986) where Mexico was hosting so a spot basically opened up for Canada in CONCACAF, instead of going out and getting an international coach to at least get things running as a start they seem to hire second rate Canadians with the exception of Osieck.

As for hosting, 9 venues isnt enough, South Africa has 13 and some of those are either way too small like Mcgill Stadium or too outdated such as Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. The only hope of getting it here is perhaps a co hosting situation with the US.

I kind of thought that myself. I just wanted to get opinions of soccer fans.

Meh, evenso...Canada has a handful of "world class" soccer venues and that is being generous.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it here, but I don't think it will happen in our lifetime.

It would be a bizarro World Cup if Argentina, France and Portugal do not make it to South Africa. Of the three, the Albiceleste should be ashamed of themselves. Yes, Maradona is a poor manager but he is also the greatest player ever to lace up the boots - they should accord him a semblance of respect. Lionel Messy was absolutely dreadful, it's clear that he cannot handle physical play; his performance this past week should disqualify him for Player of the Year consideration. Aguero was even worse, maybe they should affix the letter "t" and the end of his nickname. Cambiasso is recovering from ankle surgery and hasn't played a match this season. Disgraziati.

As for France, I'm amazed they've gotten as far as they have without goaltending. Domenench has power of thumbscrews, no Serie A players have been invovlved in the past 4 matches - Frey sits in Florence while his paisans flounder. All the while the Platini boyz fart in Zizou/Deschamps general direction.

As for Portugal it's all about leadership; it is clear that the spirit of Eusebio does not reside within the frame of C Ronaldo. Even though he is the most physically talented player in the world.

I think Portugal will nip in there as the 2nd place team. They have kind fixtures left while Sweden and Denmark play one another.

How about France v. Portugal as the 2nd place teams to make the World Cup? That would make for good entertainment.

Some news in the EPL

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=676207&sec=england&cc=5901

The Premier League has announced that from next season every team must name a squad of 25 players, of which eight must be home grown.

A home grown player is any player who has played for an English or Welsh club for three years before their 21st birthday.

At present every Premier League club already passes the test, though Chelsea and Liverpool both have the bare minimum of eight.

In addition, there will be tighter controls on the spending of top flight clubs.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore revealed: "As of next season clubs will be required to have a squad named of up to 25 players, of which no more than 17 can be over the age of 21 and not home grown.

"The definition of home grown is trained for three years under the age of 21 by somebody in the English and Welsh professional system. Clubs will have to declare their 25 at the end of August when the window shuts and then again at the end of January.

But Scudamore was quick to rubbish suggestions that the rule would encourage Premier League clubs to sign foreign teenagers to train in their Academy for three years.

"It's not in the club's interests to stockpile players. It will make buying home-grown talent more attractive,'' he insisted. "We're not going down the route of a nationality test but what this will mean is that you just can't buy a team from abroad.

"We think it will give clubs an extra incentive to invest in youth. We think that one of the benefits will be that it will help the England team.''

The Premier League will also introduce strict new controls on clubs' finances.

"They will all have to annually submit accounts and future financial information,'' said Scudamore. "At all times the board of the Premier League will be applying a test which basically says this: can the club fulfil its fixtures, pay off its creditors when they are due and also to meet obligations to the Premier League's contracts and partners?

"If the board believe a club is at risk of not meeting those obligations, it has to then step in and agree a budget for the running of that club. Any transfers can be embargoed. It's absolutely crucial that these clubs are run as ongoing viable concerns. These financial rules apply immediately.

"This is tied in, and we passed the rule during the summer, to a 'fit and proper person test'. At our club meeting last week, the clubs absolutely endorsed our position of not linking expenditure to income.''

I would have liked to have seen this.

It's hard to argue with The Man when he is 100% correct.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/8/main/...arter-than-milan-when-selling-to-real-madrid-

Milan are in serious trouble, Vernon Wells has been benched and Pirlo has assumed the role of the trequartista. They will be lucky to qualify for the Europa League.

Fiorentina has filed a complaint against ManU with UEFA for the poaching of 16 year old prospect Michael Fornasier. An investigation is pending.

the Manchester derby was superb although the timing of the Man Utd goal in the 95th minute when only 4 minutes were supposed to be added was dubious.

Barcelona is too strong, especially on defense, and they don't look like they are in any sort of decline.
You got that right I.V.! This weekend's game against Atletico Madrid saw the return of Rafa Marquez to the line up. Now we're back to the full tandem of Alves, Pique, Marquez and Puyol in defence. (I'm sure the Mexican National Squad is happy to have their Captain back as well.)

El Blaugrana moved the ball around so well that at one point I actually felt sorry for Atletico. All they have is Aguero and Forlan.

Bring on Los Blancos. They've bitten off more than they can chew anyway and my Barca is playing more fluid ball.
