Alright since no one has done it and with the EPL just starting this weekend, I thought it would be a good idea to begin a soccer thread for this season.

And for my first posting as a Liverpool supporter I would like to state, we wuz robbed!!!! :D

Looks like you guys are going to miss Alonso, I hope Aquilani gets healthy soon. If Arsenal doesn't win it I am hoping its you guys. I hate Chelsea and ManU.

I thought this was a football thread but you guys are talking soccer.

lets put an end to this right now, I am using the name that over 5 billion people on this planet do, if you dont like the sport just move on to the Leafs or a CFL thread.

Big Michael any thoughts on Celtic tomorrow, I think it will be a tough one but after watching the Gooners put 6 in this weekend its gonna be a VERY interesting year in the EPL.

I didn't say you were wrong. Even you called it a soccer thread in your initial post.

BTW, soccer is a great sport.

Exactly.
I fukin hate when people do this.
Call it soccer not football.
Every time someone posts "football" here I get all excited to talk about a real sport.
And then I find out it's about soccer.

Celtic will be tough at Parkhead, I would be happy with a tie and hopefully finish them off at the Emirates. Celtic has taken a lot of European scalps at home. I think Everton had a bad day more than we were that good on the weekend. Fabregas controlled the midfield but we need another good CM to partner with him. We have sold 40M worth of players and only brought one in. I am assuming we are waiting to qualify before buying because not qualifying will cost us a lot of money.

Should be a very interesting year in the EPL, ManCity appears to be the only team that has noticeably improved. One can argue that Arsenal, ManU, Villa and 'Pool are not as good as this time last year. I will definitely be paying more attention to La Liga this year as well.

No chance National Sleazezoid League bed-wetting types. The league where linemen have no pension, suffer from brain damage and rarely live to see 60. Yippe, let's talk about that. The bloodiest strike in sports collective bargaining histrory is looming for the NFL. This time, replacement players will be violently opposed. Enjoy the upcoming NFL season folks and try not to lose too much money. Fuck the Bills, fuuck Rogers and the mules they rode in on.

I have no idea football has commenced, REAL football (Serie A) begins this weekend.:D

Forza Chelsea.

Liverpool were robbed?! While it may have been a penalty on Voronin, they were not even worthy of a tie yesterday. They were awful...Ryan Babel is useless, stick with Yossi. But if Stevie G or Torres ever get hurt at the same time, they are done. Not nearly enough squad depth on that team. Sorry David N'Gog!

I'll bend it like........
Go Spurs!!!

I have no clue what Benitez see's in Babel. He has great pace but has been a flop for Pool. And every time Benayoun plays, something goos happens. Just don't get it.

It will be hard for Man U to repeat again. Just feels like something is missing (CRon) and Berbatov just doesn't work hard enough for my liking.

I agree with the pundits, this is a difficult year to predict who will win the league this year. Interesting Berba point, because they let the other workhorse/sparkplug Tevez go as well. Chelsea are too old for me, Liverpool had their shot last year...so that leads me to Arsenal naturally. Maybe they'll flame out of Europe and take the league (Celtic v Arsenal on Sportsnet tomorrow by the way, live @2:45)...one can hope!

[size=+2]YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT THE GAME IS CALLED FOOTBALL BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT IT IS. NOBODY, OTHER THAN TWO COUNTRIES IN ONE CONTINENT CALL IT 'SOCCER'. THESE TWO COUNTRIES ARE ALSO THE ONLY ONES -THE ONLY ONES- WITH A LEAGUE THAT HAS A BUNCH OF GUYS IN TOO MUCH PADDING THROWING A LITTLE MAKESHIFT RUGBY BALL AROUND WITH THEIR HANDS AND THEY CALL IT 'FOOTBALL'!?!?!?! THEY EVEN STOLE THE NAME SINCE THEY HAD TO INVENT A SPORT SO THAT THEY COULD BE GOOD AT IT.

FIFA: FEDERATION INTERNACIONALE DE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
UEFA: Union des Associations Européennes de Football
UEFA : Union of European Football Associations
UEFA : Unión Europea de Fútbol Asociado

Correct you are, Sir. I do believe that this great country we live in is part of the ENTIRE world, not a stand-alone entity.

I don't get your point, i was born in England and am a huge soccer(football) fan. However i now live in Canada where it is called soccer and football is the NFL and CFL. So you have heard the old saying "when in Rome......"

Hey IV, tell us how you really feel:D

By the way, can Juve challenge Inter this year? Or is it a one team race?

Also, will Milan finish in the top 4 or more importantly, will Italy's coeffient result in losing one of their 4 CL spots? Enquiring minds need to know this stuff, help us out.
