I recently lost/misplaced my bank card. I went to the bank yesterday to get it replaced and showed my ID. They said my ID was not accurate and told me that the number on my passport wasn't even remotely close to the one on file. They will not allow me any access to my bank account because they say I have no proof that I am who I say I am.

I have had this account (TD) since 2005 and frequent the same branch. This is baffling to me. A couple of people have told me to contact the police...?? :frown:

Of course the number on your passport doesn't match the number you had in 2005, that passport expired years ago, they are being idiots.

Do you have access to the account online?

I would demand to see the branch manager.

No, they said it is a recent passport. People have told me to go to the passport office which I will be doing today. Something is not right. :(

How do we know this is the real Miss Croft?

:eyebrows:
Because she's a Sweetie Pie. Doh!

Take fuji's suggestion, Miss Croft.

Perhaps it might help to show the bank manager a recent bank statement mailed to your address, along with your driver's licence or other photo ID.

Do you recognize anyone at the bank? They might at least be able to say you are a customer there. Do you have a secret word PW you use when calling the bank. Can call and ask the bank what to do, say your card was lost, the banks have a fraud department. Would stay on top of this issue.

Have you talked to anyone (beyond a teller) that would be able to say "yes, this is MissCroft".
Also, shouldn't there be passwords to get into your accounts, like 'mother's maiden name', your 1st pet', etc.

As someone asked upthread, are you still able to access your account online?
Do you get paper statements for anything from that branch that would have your name/address on it?

I would be calling head office, start with customer service, but be ready to move to fraud department if no quick resolution.

You don't want to see my tits, Viggo. Trust me on this.

You have tits? Mom said there might be a day like this.

Ms. Croft, do you have contacts in other parts of the bank. I have contacts in two or three areas. Example. Mortgages, wealth management. They know who I am. Just a thought.

Your passport is the only form of ID you possess? Do you have a drivers licence, health card, any other form of ID with your credentials?

Is the bank able to disable / cancel your ATM card unless until you get this sorted out? I would think that any other form of ID: driver's licence, Ontario photo card, or photo health card would also do. Can't imagine that the bank only accepts the passport as proof of ID.

Oooooh! Call the cops! They tried that with me, saying signature was not the same. Told again "TD bank" cops or fix it! I say it took 20 minutes or so, and I was done. The reason I told them to call the police was that it was like they were accusing of fraud. They had no choice but to figure it out. Your money, put your foot down!

It is probably just the teller telling you this. You should have demanded to see the manager right then. If they refuse, raise you voice enough so that everyone in the bank can hear you, including the manager.

Make sure they know that you have attempted to rectify the situation - hence you intend to hold them responsible for any losses due to fraud.

Bring your bank statement for this account. If you've kept a the original letter that contained your bank card bring that too.

Hold on a second, why were they looking at the number on the passport even? I've lost a bank card a couple of times, and in those cases I showed them my driver's license, or some other piece of ID and come out with a new card.

Also, if your account is tied to your address, ask them to mail you a new one.

Did you try calling them Miss Croft? I also think you can order a replacement bank card online.

You spoke with a moron. There are plenty of ways to verify you are the account holder, other than a passport number.
Talk to the manager and if they can't sort it, escalate it right away.

Like KD said you can usually request a new card after sign in to online banking.

In the end if you still have trouble and have cheques write yourself the full balance and switch banks.
