I’m sure there was at least some sort of discussion, probably or maybe a brief one...it’s professional hockey, they’re not organizing your Sunday pickup team and trying to avoid the guy no one likes.

I’m sure they did reach out to him...Doesn't sound like the the Leafs ever even reached out to Thornton to discuss staying/going/whatever. Season ended, that was it. Way to keep it classy, Dubas.
No idea what evidence you may think you have that makes you so 'sure' they reached out to him. Perhaps you could explain why Thornton's camp publicly claimed they did not. What possible motive would they have to do this? What would they have to gain? More likely, it's just another indicator of how unprofessional and inexperienced Dubas is.
They should fire Dubas and hire you for your experience and professionalism...I’m sure he was notified one way or another that they didn’t want him back.

You are correct we in Montreal have not had a cup but I think we had 11 since last Leafs's cup?

The most fanatical "fans" are probably European and Latino soccer "fans". Some have been known to commit suicide when their favourite team lost and others commit murder.

My entire life experience with TML has been to critically tear the team apart. Starting at ownership, management, coaching and finally players (who actually get the least blame). I wouldn’t know what to do it they actually prove me wrong one day.

Anyway, I think it is possible be a loyal Leaf fan without drinking the kool aid. I met many of them. They are intelligent, knowledgeable, rational and civil.
It's a professional organization dealing with a guy who's been in the league 20+ years...I'm sure Dubas told them they weren't going to offer him a contract early so Thornton could move on with other offers...
