You can't trade Nylander, that would be foolish, the Leafs would miss his passing skills. And it would hurt Matthews.
That they would trade Nylander if they signed JT is nothing more than speculation. They have lots of cap space for next season and a lot of options when the time comes to sign Matthews and Marner. I'd think a lot will depend on how the team and individual players perform in the new season.

I don't know what to make of the alleged rift between Babcock and Matthews. I don't want a me me player on my team, and I don't think he is. It'd be one of the most unselfish moves if he reaches out to JT to show his efforts in trying to help his team to recruit another franchise type player. That'd show me that he puts the team's success above
individual's glory. Maybe he has already done that but I haven't heard or read anything to that effect.

I think at the end JT will decide stay with NYI. If I was him I wouldn't if he wants any hope at all of winning the cup.

It is not likely Tavares is headed back to the island. I believe you can rule out all non-contenders.
I guess it is down to those six teams, five excluding the NYI .
I do not know but to suddenly go to the west coast after playing his entire life in the east I think he stays in the east.

If the Leafs can land Tavares do they get really bold and approach Arizona about a Matthews deal that would land them OEL, Clayton Keller and some draft picks?

Matthews is of course six or seven years younger than Tavares but Tavares will easily be the number one centre for at least the next five years and Keller is a promising youngster who performed on a bad team...OEL gives the Leafs the stud number one defenceman that they need and some picks in the bank as Arizona would seem landing Matthews as their franchise sustaining investment.

Arizona's G.M. would laugh at that proposal.

Bozak off to the Blues, 3 year $15 million.
With Tavaras good riddance to Bozak. He was a number 1 center playing with Kessel and Lupul/Kulemin/JVR/Crabb at one time. Now he'd be a 4th line center on the Leafs. Goes to show how far Leafs were at one time.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

This is huge.

Mark shapeero and Phil C., this is how a team operates when they are in a big market.

They spend because they can and they can because of the size of the population. Whether it is hockey or baseball, the size of Toronto, the GTA and Ontario remains the same. We are big market. If anything the Jays have a bigger market because there are 6 other Canadian NHL teams and no other MLB teams. Why does shapeero think he is still in Cleveland.

I will be pumped for 18/19.

What Shanahan wants, what he gets.

He wants the Leafs top job, he gets it;
He wants Babcock, he gets him;
He wants Hunter, he gets him;
He wants Lou, he gets him;
He wants Matthews, he gets him;
He wants Dubas, he gets him;
He wants Tavares, he gets him;

He wants the Cup, HE WILL GET IT.

HYMAN MATTHEWS NYLANDER
MARNER TAVARES JOHNSSON
MARLEAU KADRI BROWN

SUBS : Kapanen, Martin, Grundstrom + whoever good in faceoffs.

First ever a 3 line team to win a Cup lol

Leafs still need to upgrade the defence if they are to be a serious cup contender. Signing Taveras is just a saw off as he just replaces the combined offence of Bozak and JVR.

It's different for mangia cakes.

Of course Drew Doughty was going to sign with The Kings, he's a mangia cake. It's different with South Europeans, they want to have their families close. That and the fact that the Islanders are homeless, he would have spent three years in the Brooklyn Shithouse. Brooklyn is no longer Italian Flatbush, the Islanders will do well once the Floral Park Arena is built.

I hope JT doesn't hit me over the head with his hockey stick, should we meet. Portuguese don't like being called mangia cakes.

JT will make up for the lost offense of JVR, and I have high hopes of Johnsson and Kapanen that they'll contribute as well. As for defense, it's a huge upgrade over both Bozak and JVR, both of whom Babcock had to shield from other teams' best forwards.
