If you paid any attention to Russian politics you would understand that Putin represents a moderate voice in Russia and there are many more voices that seek much greater escalation with NATO. If you really understood what the Russian Oreshnik missile represents, you would probably realize Putin seeks to avoid a nucelar war, and all these steps including the invasion of Urkraine are to prevent a direct NATO-Russia war which will quickly lead to a nuclear war once the NATO conventional forces start getting chewed up.
You seem to share the Russian delusion that Europe plans to invade. It's not credible.
If Putin lets his soldiers go on home, he might be able to sleep a little easier around them. Revolt should be his biggest concern.

Regardless of the costs incurred, wars don't always produce satisfactory outcomes for the participants. For all the men and material the Russians have expended, this is not the result they sought.
Historically Russia has won wars through senseless attrition. Hoping they eventually pack up and go home is not a great strategy. Some have argued that the war should be fought until the Putin regime collapses. More likely, the Ukraine collapses politically and/or a terrible escalation is triggered.
Considering that the Ukraine survives with most of its 2022 territory and that NATO was not drawn into the conflict, that could be considered an acceptable outcome.
It's easy to be idealistic standing 5,000 miles away from a war.

Russia wins wars by bleeding out its enemy, yes. Its the lowest risk way to win a war. In the last year or so the attrition has vastly favored the Russians and there are about 1m Ukrianian KIA vs about 100K Russian KIA. As as low risk way to win a war and minimize civilian casualties, its a job well done. Russia could have won this war much faster, but the result would have been vastly higher civilian casualties and greater risk of a NATO confrontation. The way they fought the war ensured they stripped NATO armories clean, and bled out Ukraine so a NATO led counteroffensive is not really viable or possible.

However here, the 20th century taught us the grave dangers inherent with empires collapsing. We already have an unstable situation in the region controlled by the former Soviet Union. We don't need Russia to be broken up.
The woman in the video Kaja Kallas is Estonian. I think it's fair to say the Baltic nations are the most hawkish in supporting the Ukrainian's fight with Russia.
And poland and the UK and and and. Fact is almost every nation in Nato has attacked Russia at some point in its history and Russia has attacked many of them. Buty I doubt you can count on 2 hands the number of times Russia has been invaded from the West. She is the EU foreign minister and thus speaks for the EU.

Afghanistan, Iraq... it worked well. Both Russia and the US found out the hard way that tucking their tail and leaving makes sense rather than throw more resources into a losing situation.
I doubt Putin will ever be able to peacefully keep the territory. He can make the war he started go away, just find some face-saving pretense and give the order.
No two wars are the same. Korea and Vietnam tell that story succinctly.
Relative to Afghanistan and Iraq, Ukrainians are more pragmatic and will choose peace over protracted conflict. Russia is fighting next door on former Soviet territory. They really didn't care much about Afghanistan.

Incidentally, Putin had been able to keep Ukrainian territory peacefully prior to the latest invasion.

Russia winning was a foregone conclusion because Russia is one of the world's few nuclear superpowers and Ukraine is just another Eastern European, agriculture dependent, non-nuclear and non-NATO poor country. A war with such a foregone conclusion should have been over in a few weeks and here we are, still going after 2 1/2 years. Ukraine exposed how weak Russia really is and embarrassed them completely.
But yes, now we can see that Russia will win and that's because of the lack of intellect of the American electorate.
BTW, it is indisputable that Russia started the war.
