It's hard to say.
Marco Rubio is claiming to be acting director, they shut it down for the day, Musk is rummaging through the computers.

Will they just blow it up and shutter it?
Be content with freezing payments and doing all kinds of damage?

No idea.
USAID is Americas Regime change machine (that and the Endowment for democracy) So I don't think it will be ended, it will be removed from Congressional oversight. Some interesting opinions here:

Hopefull less active. If Georgia quiets down, and Romanian and German elections are allowed to proceed, and Ukraine slips away quitely in the night, then you will know its not just window dressing.

being on an escort board your maga peers are truly pissed at what you spend your money on
Don’t care. All the politicians especially Democrats. Virtue signaling. They believe if they help DEI and poor countries they have free rein to do the nastiest shit. Especially Hilary.

The difference is that it's his money. He can spend it on whatever he wants. Foreign aid is spending his money on shit he doesn't want.

If you like foreign aid so much, donate your own money directly. Why steal from taxpayers?

No, I am not freaked out and there is no pendulum swing. I have also been providing funds to Canadian media personally. As far as Trudeau is concerned, I didn't vote for him. But, I was happy that we had a leader during the covid pandemic that helped so many people not lose their homes and businesses mostly survive and all this using money from my pocket !
there will be an accounting one day and you may be very shocked to see where a lot of the money actually went

t is a US government agency created by executive order
Actually maybe you don't know who USAID is. It was not created by an executive order, it was created by JFK through congress
Wikipedia says it was a JFK executive order.
USAID was subsequently established by the executive order of President John F. Kennedy, who sought to unite several existing foreign assistance organizations and programs under one agency.
if that is inaccurate take it up with Wikipedia

It is funny how you state the obvious and assume I am surprised that happens. What surprises me is not what you say, but rather what you don't say. Elon is not the US government and has no security clearance. Maybe frump gave it to him, but he could never actually pass security clearance and what is he doing with all that data.
i am sure he has a letter indicating he was given authority by Trump and the white House lawyer reviewed it
He may not be drawing a huge salary but his is US govt

I am sure there are many places money is not accounted for and misused or abused. Maybe Elon should start by reducing the price of army toilet seats. Isn't $400.00 a toilet seat too much.

you check toilet seats, Musk will look for real savings

With a budget of over $50 billion,[4] USAID is one of the largest official aid agencies in the world and accounts for more than half of all U.S. foreign assistance – the highest in the world in absolute dollar terms.
that is a lot of money flowing through this agency and a lot of money has been sent to Ukraine
A country at war, but also one of the more corrupt in the world

you positioning is strange
highly sensitive and confidential data from USAID supplied by the rest of the world to them on a confidential basis.
what is so confidential that countries asking for money from the US govt , do not want the president to know about ?

my guess it is not entirely the foreign countries who are so worried about the "sensitivity and confidentially " , rather the agencies approvers for the funds that were directed overseas

So far he hasn't done anything about taking frump trash out!
sounds like an entire agency that Trump felt could go to the curb
pretty bold move, but Musk is not stupid , there was something amiss there

i noticed you completely avoided the climate change propaganda issue
not to worry , eventually we will get a better picture of the Trudeau govts money movements
it will be challenging as Gerald Butts is very skilled at reorganizing govt bureaucracies and fund flows to eco warrior groups who went ape shit all over pipelines , Alberta shortly after Gerald Justin gained power and got his corrupt hands on the public purse
But not to worry too much , I am likely way off base ..and all those corruption scandals likely do not paint a true picture of your ever so fake benevolent hero
those are only the scandals they got caught on, so far >>>> tip of the iceberg

Of course they can, and Elon actually could be able to do that. He could simply start with the excessive spending by the US military!
no doubt its a big cash cow
The pentagon may not be spared a house cleaning
pretty sure most military spending on DEI will stop
have some patience
when looking to save money , you need to start with the Funds leaving the country first

Mitch, maybe you should check out and post that Elon has gotten control of all of the highly sensitive and confidential data from USAID supplied by the rest of the world to them on a confidential basis.

Take your blinders off.

Trump and his sycophants now have nearly total control over much of the media. Try posting something negative on Twitter and see what happens.
You're wasting your breath. All this twat does is repost Twitter feeds and leave a :ROFLMAO: on posts where he's checkmated.

They are replacing the experienced USAID staff with 6 inexperienced Musk "Engineers" with practically no proper Full University education.
These individuals do not have the Security Clearance to have access to Personal and Government Classified Information. It is Unconstitutional:

Elon Musk and His Engineers, One of Whom Is 19, Are Accessing Classified Government Intel and Americans' Private Info
Six young men with little professional experience are playing central roles in Musk's 'DOGE' mission to seize control of federal agencies and their classified data, according to a new report

Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency staff are gaining sweeping access to sensitive government information and private details about millions of Americans.

Six engineers between the ages of 19 and 24 are at the center of Musk's DOGE team, according to a new WIRED report. The outlet reports that the young men have little to no government experience but are now being tasked with helping execute President Donald Trump's order to "[modernize] Federal technology and software to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity."

WIRED says that among Musk's pool of engineers, at least one is still in college and another is a volunteer. At least two of the others have been linked to openly anti-democracy billionaire Peter Thiel, a tech investor and entrepreneur.

Elon Musk Just Started Shutting Down This Government Agency Hours Before Employees Were Expected to Report to Work

“What we're seeing is unprecedented in that you have these actors who are not really public officials gaining access to the most sensitive data in government,” said Don Moynihan, professor of public policy at the University of Michigan, in an interview with WIRED.

“We really have very little eyes on what's going on," Moynihan continued. "Congress has no ability to really intervene and monitor what's happening because these aren't really accountable public officials. So this feels like a hostile takeover of the machinery of governments by the richest man in the world.”

CNN reported on Feb. 2 that DOGE staff tried to improperly obtain classified information at the U.S. Agency for International Development. Those at USAID who resisted the effort, concerned about DOGE workers' security clearances, were placed on leave soon afterwards.

The Associated Press confirmed that DOGE staff were able to ultimately access the material they sought, which contained intelligence reports.

DOGE has worked to infiltrate other federal agencies as well. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently handed DOGE representatives the keys to the federal payment system, which acts as a checkbook for the entire U.S. government and contains sensitive data about hundreds of millions of Americans, according to ABC News.

Before Bessent intervened, a career official at the Treasury Department had resisted requests to provide Musk's associates with access to the payment system, which has very few authorized users. The official was placed on leave for pushing back and announced his retirement shortly after.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, sent a letter of concern to Bessent on Sunday, Feb. 2.

“I am alarmed that as one of your first acts as secretary, you appear to have handed over a highly sensitive system responsible for millions of Americans’ private data — and a key function of government — to an unelected billionaire and an unknown number of his unqualified flunkies,” she wrote.

"Controlling the system could allow the Trump Administration to 'unilaterally' – and illegally – cut off payments for millions of Americans, putting at risk the financial security of families and businesses based on political favoritism or the whims of Mr. Musk and those on his team who have worked their way inside," Warren continued. "It could also give them access to millions of Americans’ personal and financial information that is protected by law."

Amid DOGE's unprecedented effort to rapidly reshape the government, Musk has powerful allies and former employees serving in the Office of Personnel Management and the General Services Administration.

DOGE has thus far made many cuts to federal staffing, but otherwise its goals remain largely unclear. In announcing the unofficial department, Trump stated its goal was to form "a smaller government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy."
