Tariffs on Canada delayed for 30 days after talk between Trudeau and Trump. Trump folds.

We have some good news today. We have temporarily averted tariffs that would have severely damaged our economy, giving time for more negotiation and time for cooler heads to prevail. Thank you to the countless workers, union leaders, businesses and everyday proud Canadians who rallied together to make this happen. With the U.S. pausing tariffs, Ontario will also pause our retaliatory measures. If President Trump proceeds with tariffs, we won’t hesitate to remove American products off LCBO shelves or ban American companies from provincial procurement. Make no mistake, Canada and Ontario continue to stare down the threat of tariffs. Whether it’s tomorrow, in a month or a year from now when we’re renegotiating the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, President Trump will continue to use the threat of tariffs to get what he wants. We’re already feeling the impact. So long as our trading relationship with our largest trading partner is up in the air, we will continue to see many potential projects frozen and projects that were already under way put at risk. Canada and the U.S. need to remain united and focused on the real trade war we’re fighting, with China. If we want to win, we need to fight together - not each other.

He made the threat to leverage what he wanted to accomplish and low and behold Trudeau gave it to him. So did Mexico.
Sounds like Mexico did nothing and neither will Canada. All he accomplished was riling up his degenerates which is obvious on this board.

Remember late last week there was a Reuters report that tariffs were bring delayed a month that the white house quickly denied? What a coincidence eh? This whole clown show was planned. No one with critical thinking skills should believe the reasons for tariffs the US presented. I hope we continue to diversify trade and most importantly I hope we keep up the newfound pride in Canada and Canadian businesses.
Oh, that's interesting.

The "delay until March" was actually worked out in advance, but they had to deny it when leaked?
Then they do some kayfabe for the press?

It's plausible.

Lol, just as I said, buy some equipment, a taskforce(fentynal czar) and promises.

Glad to see the nation stand strong. Trudeau finally got it right, after his ring kissing at Mara Lago before. Doug Ford did too.

In the end I think the real pressure came from Congress. Too narrow a margin to piss off anyone and lots of donors would have been hit. It was an exercise in brinkmanship. Trump had to blink.

If the problem is so small it should be easy to fix and not give Trump any more attention.
Why did Trudeau start a trade war?
More to cover up?
Trying to be tough on his way out?
Save the Liberal Party?
By escalating Trudeau and Fordsy allow Trump to ask for more now....
Probably not a good move.

Even if the tariffs never happen, the relations between USA and Canada will take a long time to recover.

And we will remember who argued for the other side.
Your guy is on his way out and is hanging on too long.

You don't understand global politics. After Canada's elections, Poilievre and Trump will have a sit-down and come out of the meeting best buddies.

I don't think Poilievre is that stupid. It would be wise to just keep it business with Trump.

Plus Poilievre has already talked about counter measures. It's also absolutely stupid being buddies with a guy that threatened to tank your economy for no real reason at all.

I would not be so sure PP will be the one.
