Although you're right people do misconstrue, but the reality is a statement heard by someone - in particular spoken to that person - is in fact valid evidence. So is Woodward's recordings. When more than one person hears the same individual say the same thing it it is even stronger evidence.A quote is not proof of anything whether you consider it hearsay or not. Maybe someone misunderstood. Maybe someone has an axe to grind. Is that the hill of proof you are willing to die on?

Yes, Trump did say peace. But I also did not forget he said other things, like: "And we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore."
