Great idea!

Then the UNWRA can finance it, instead of the Ontarian tax payer!!
You mean like this tunnel?

Oops, no that one was actually built by Israel.

Or how about this one? No?

Cost of a tunnel underneath 401 would be about $55 billion.
If you make the tunnel a toll highway for $5 in each direction, it could possibly work
Just curious how you arrived at that $55 billion cost, without any details about the depth, width, and other unknown complicating factors regarding constructing a 55 kilometer tunnel underneath the 401 that would have the capacity to carry sufficient future traffic to justify its total cost...

I dont think this is ever going to happen though.
But I applaud Dougie for thinking outside the box

If it is ~55 Billion, it would be about 8.5k for each person living in the GTA.

It would be cheaper to give everyone a free metropass for life.

If there are tunnels then it should be for bikes, the volume of a tunnel is the square of the radius, a tunnel that is 4 times smaller involves 16 times less volume of dirt to be dug out.

I drive but if there were bike tunnels then I would rather ride a bike, plus you can have shops along the tunnels to bring in commerce.

C'mon Phil. Dr. Saxe's stated opinion is certainly anything but an unqualified endorsement or even a confident estimation of the final costs.

And she wisely mentions the many problems and traffic disruptions that the project may create during the many years of construction.

In fact, as I read the whole article, it seems to me she does not think the tunnel is at all a good idea!

Duggo's lunatic capers aside, anyone here remember when the lefties on city council and planner Jennifer Keesmaat told us that they could tear down the Gardiner Expressway without it affecting downtown Toronto traffic??

None of our Fearless Leaders have the brainpower of your average miniature schnauzer.
Better yet and much truer and relevant:

Remember when the right-wing mayor and his majority right-wing suburban councilors voted to rehab the Gardiner and shove its most easterly section a meter or two to the north which directly led to its current construction/destruction chaos that is causing this massive traffic congestion, gridlock, blocking the box and mayhem on approaches to and from the Gardiner, on the Gardiner and the downtown core.

All of this mayhem, thanks to that right-wing mayor and right-wing suburban council majority.

See now. we're dealing with actual facts and reality.

You'll never alleviate your vehicle caused road rage, head splitting migraines and delusions if you cannot and/or refuse to acknowledge facts.

Think funnel:

Think funnel:
The work on the eastern end of the Gardiner has created any traffic hold-up. I drive that route to my office.

And the CNE sector rebuild is necessary and overdue.

SMH at what you post.

Sure, there bud. All those misinformed, vehicle-induced brain explosions of yours on this board are just performative.

Take 2 funnels and repost next morning.

Instead of insulting me, respond factually to what I write. That's all I'm asking.

Fact is this. You cannot and/or refuse to acknowledge facts. The fact about which type of politicians created this Gardiner induced chaos. Hint, hint, it was not radical left-wing city councilors. It was right-wing suburban council maority and the right-wing mayor.

Fact is this. You cannot and/or refuse to acknowledge facts. The fact is that you can try to add more lanes on highways, if at all possible, but added pavement eventually reaches interchange roads that cannot be widened, which meet intermediate roads, tertiary roads and local roads that cannot be widened. Hence, the fuckin funnel effect of expanding vehicular traffic lanes. We already see it with what we got.

Fact is this. You cannot and/or refuse to acknowledge facts. The fact that bike lanes do not cause traffic congestion. Single occupant motorized vehicles cause traffic congestion.

Fact is this. Does Skoob 'liking' your views on this topic not inform of the utter fallacy of your thoughts expressed?

Nah, we're stuck with it.
That Spanish company is making a killing off it
So are you and I. It's 50.01% controlled by the Canada Pension Plan.

"The Company is owned by indirectly owned subsidiaries of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (total 50.01%), also known as CPP Investments; Cintra Global S.E., a wholly owned subsidiary of Ferrovial S. A. (43.23%); and AtkinsRéalis Canada Inc., formerly SNC-Lavalin Inc. (6.76%)."

I'm curious, who pays for the maintenance of the 407?? Is it those guys or the Ontario govt??
If its the govt they got an even sweeter deal
