That sucks. Now I have to find a new place to quench my appetite. Used to also go to Katz's but that closed down.
Dave's Deli on Avenue Rd makes world-class deli sandwiches. But they are expensive. There is a new location in the Waterworks Food Hall downtown near Brant and King St.

The Tomato by Turkey & The Wolf out of the deep US south. I’ve been eating them steady for about a year now. Crazy good.

this guy has the worlds most wholesome content: it’s just him making sandwiches from history. He’s got a really great Bob Villa vibe.

Been there. As you say, it's good but expensive.

Another oddity. On their big board they list the prices of meat by the pound for takeout. But it says that their "pounds" are only 14 ounces. WTF?!!!

Peter's on Eglinton in Mississauga serves Lester's meat and the sandwich is enormous.
Their portions for everything are monstrous. My last visit there wasn't great though. Shitty service and the food was just ok.

The Yellow Deli in Kingston, BC and across Europe makes the most amazing sandwiches!

My favourite is their Reuben. All of their bread is made on site and they don't skimp on ingredients.

You can choose a menu sandwich or make your own.

They are all owned and run by a religious cult with an interesting history.

The prices are based on the cost of the raw meat.

You lose about 10-25% of the total weight after cooking. Do you think that a pattie from a Quarter Pounder at McDonald's weighs a 1/4 lbs. after being cooked? Do you think a 1 pound steak at the supermarket weighs a pound after cooking?

Elvis used to fry them.
I avoid fried food since about 30 years now. Its one of the worst thing you can eat.

i make my own french fry in the oven. My only occasional fried food is when I travel to southern states to hit a popular fried chicken place. Which I consider a marvel of American cuisine.

Other than that avoid fried food!!

That flavour that they add is MSG.
Kewpie mayonnaise — which is made with egg yolks and not whole eggs — has a richer, more velvety texture than regular store-bought mayo. It is not surprising, since they use a high proportion of yolks, which give it an egg-forward flavor.

What does that have to with only getting 14 oz? If thats the case, why does every other place give you 16 oz? If you go by price per ounce, then Dave's is still significantly more expensive.

Actually, when you think about it, it's simply another case of "shrinkflation". Yoy pay the same but get less. Actually, losing 2 oz. out of 16 is 12.5%.

Kewpie mayo has MSG in it. There's nothing wrong with that, it's naturally derived and has been used in foods forever. It was just demonized by some reporter back in the day, attributing headaches they got after eating Chinese food, or something like that.

There is an MSG free variety, but it probably doesn't taste as good.

Agreed, but the way you initially mentioned MSG made it seem bad.

They don't charge me by the weight for a steak at a steakhouse. If it's 15oz. or 17oz., the price is the same.

Karen mode? You seem to be taking this personally. I simply stated a fact. I never complained to the proprietor. But it is shrinkflation. If I go to Pancer's and order a pound of meat, guess what, they give me 16oz.😲 Can you believe it?

I find the main one on Claremont has huge portions, all the other branches, half portions, same price, anyone notice that ?
Maybe it depends on location, the branch I always go to is the one on York Mills and they are still massive. A little over priced but still the best veal sangwich in Toronto.
