You can see the disappointment in Auston's face when he didn't get a chance to get out there in OT to score another goal.
Seeing the injuries to McMann and McCabe you gotta think they're going to rest McMatthews and he probably knows it.
They rested Marner the season he had 99 pts.
Nick Jensen of Washington was stretchered off the ice after a hit from Michael Eyssimont of TB yesterday.
McMann and McCabe are legit starters. Leafs will need all hands on deck. McCabe is no Muzzin but when Muzzin was injured Leafs were doomed both times since their Defense was thin to start with.

Who will be their top 6 D?

Rielly, McCabe, Benoit, Lyubushkin, Edmundsen, Brodie? Or drop Brodie for Liljegren or Giordano?

Rielly and McCabe are their 2 most important.
Brodie should be that as well. He's not the player he once was but Keefe still needs and relies on him.
The Bush shoots right and that alone will probably make him a starter.
Edmundson has the playoff pedigree. They need him for the PK to block shots so you gotta think he's in.
Benoit they probably think he's similar to Bush and Edmundsen with a lot less experience so he's probably borderline.
Lili shoots right so that helps but Keefe has never trusted him for the playoffs and I don't see how that has changed.
Timmins is horrendous defensively and that alone should keep him out.
Gio was was not up to snuff last playoffs. Edmundson in effect is his replacement.

So it will probably be Rielly, McCabe, Brodie, Bush, Edmundsen.
Should be between Lili and Benoit for the 6th. They may rotate.
McCabe last year was his first ever playoffs. He was -7 in 11 games. It overwhelmed him.
He played for Buffalo to start his career and then Chicago. Buffalo has not made the playoffs in 13 seasons.
Benoit has never played an NHL playoff game.
Bush has 7 games of playoff experience all with Toronto.
Lili played 5 games last year and 2 the year before and that's it.

PP and PK sucks!!!
The expectations are low to very low for the PK. They'll somehow need to pull off a miracle there.
The PP though has to be good to excellent otherwise they're doomed. The weak link there appears to be Rielly.
Leafs probably recognized that hence why they brought in Klingberg.
TB has the best PP. They have threats everywhere.
They use Hedman up top who can shoot. Stamkos left side to take one timers
High slot they have Point to take passes from Kucherov from the right boards.
The key is Kucherov. He can take one timers or pass to Point or slap pass to net front for tap in.

Brodie is out and Lili is in for the game against Florida so indeed it could be Brodie out to start the playoffs unless Keefe is resting him.

I was looking at stats regarding Maple Leaf coches throughout franchise history. Keefe is number 1 regarding regular season winning percentage, but he is number 12 regarding playoff winning percentage. In fact, the coach that's ahead of him on the second list is......(wait for it)...... John Brophy.

Expect Panthers to throw the game tonight to ensure a first round matchup with the Leafs.
We want Toronto if you will.
Boston threw their game against Washington the other night to give themselves a chance.
Leafs could end up 2 pts behind Florida when it's all said and done.

Funny how both Boston and Florida want to avoid Tampa for the Leafs. Keefe should use this as motivation for the Leafs.

Florida has the tie breaker over Boston.
As the game goes into OT the out of town score board has Ottawa beating Boston in regulation.
Expect Florida to pull the goalie and shoot it into their own net to forfeit the loser point.

Washington with a minus 39 goal difference is in the playoffs.

Looks like Tor vs Bos and an all-Florida series.

Stranger things have happened, my early playoff predictions:
- Boston played poorly to get the Leafs, only to be eleiminated by the Leafs, and
- Florida played great to avoid the Leafs, only to be eliminated by Tampa.

Mostly wishful thoughts admittedly. The reality is at this point the Leafs have the inferior goaltending comparing to the other three teams. Woll hasn’t looked good and Samsonov is unpredictable. The Leafs trump card maybe is their forward depth if Bertuzzi, Domi, McMann,Knies and Robertson can rise to the occasion.

Florida screwed up. They had a golden opportunity to avoid TB. Toronto wasn't trying to win this game since 2 pts does nothing for them. They were focused on getting Matthews a goal.

power play for the season:
1st TB
7th Toronto
8th Florida
14th Boston

The statement by many pundits, "The Leafs are going to have to outscore their problems." Well of course outscoring your opponent wins you games.
