Seriously the Bluejays trading Bo this is the media at there best again. Have you ever heard Bo wanting to be traded. Also he probably has a no trade clause in his contract.
As far as I am aware Bo would not be permitted to have a trade clause in his contract.

1. He is not a 10/5 player who gets an automatic veto to any trade. A 10-5 player is any players with over 10 years of MLB experience, and 5 on that team.
2. He did not sign an extension that extended into his post-arbitration eligibility years which would have allowed him to negoti a no trade list. If his extension had went into 2026 he could have one. But since his extension ends in 2025 (which would be his last arbitration eligible year), he could not negotiate one.

Does anyone else get the feeling the Blue Jays are being used as a negotiating chip?

I don't think so. I don't think the Jays can be outbid, and I mean the guys going to get like 500 million so I don't know that his agent is pushing that agenda. I think the Toronto is a genuine attractable club for him, but I think he ultimately signs with the Dogers.

I have gotten really wrapped up in this whole “Ohtani sweepstake.” Blue Jays Today, Jays Digest etc etc all these YouTube podcasts I watch, that’s all they talk about…. I think this type of signing would light a fire under Guerreros ass. That kind of thing I’m excited for. And then bring back Teoscar Hernandez along with a new hitting coach, and I’m good lol.

I think the hitting coach issue has been addressed. They fired Hudgens, the "hitting strategy coach" and given Mattingly a second role on top of bench coach, the "hitting or offensive? co-ordinator". At this point I don't think any of the other hitting coaches have been fired. If they do or don't I think it's Mattingly's call.

I know they addeessed the hitting coach issue: Where is that Martinez guy now? Wasn’t he reassigned?

Yeah I mean I believe the Jays are making it a difficult decision for him, but I just can't see the Jays landing him.

I honestly cannot see the Jays winning the Ohtani sweepstakes. Could the Jays afford to spend on him? Yes, but will they? Probably no. I feel like this (and the Soto trade rumours) are either being spread by the Jays to get the fanbase excited or forgiving for the unmitigated disaster of the post season, or by other execs/agents to build up the price for whomever wins the bidding for Ohtani or Soto...I'm very cynical about this. But, I would love to see the Jays actually win something like this. It would make a huge splash in the game!

Money for Ohtani isn't the issue here. The Jays won't get outbid. It's the It's the whole west coast thing, and does believe he's the one that makes Toronto a contender.

I was in downtown Los Angeles in July. I spent a good amount of time in Little Tokyo. I didn’t want to leave. The most unbelievable sushi restaurants, a Takoyaki specialty shop, plus an amazing Japanese grocery store… I was eating mochi and drinking Sapporo all day. I literally did not want to leave.

But what I find very interesting is that this is not an automatic slam dunk for the Dodgers. Something is making Ohtani consider other options and delay his decision. I also heard/read a broadcaster or journalist or something I forgot who, say a few months ago that it is disrespectful in the Japanese culture for him to leave the Angels and go to the Dodgers. I mean we are talking half $1 billion does it really matter? Lol

A nice off season move would be to can Shapiro, Atkins and Schneider and trade Vlad for prospects. The definition of madness is hoping the same jokers who run the team now will be able to accomplish anything different.
It will not happen in the 2024 season, but when 2024 starts to look like 2023 the knives will come out.

Keep dreaming on the Shapiro front. He's not going anywhere for a long time.

Phil, nothing at all to do with this post.

But, FYI, Gibby is back as bench coach..............for the Mets, the team he played for.

So this is the first time I think I finally truly believe the Jays might be the front runners.

Ross Atkins isn't even in Nashville right now. He put out a statement/tweet that he had a "scheduling conflict" and he would have to participate on a zoom call.

That tell me 1 of 2 things:

1)The Ohtani camp wants to thank him in person but let him know he's decided elsewhere

2)We just landed this fucking guy
