Nylander is a great value at 7 million a season. Sure was a good signing at the time.

I know when he signed the extension there was some doubters.
Yes, management was heavily criticized for the signing amount at the time. However, he was nowhere near this good at that time.

but it wasn't a 1 year contract he signed. It had term. The haters couldn't grasp the concept of term.
Expectation was for salary cap to go up as well but covid came.
Otherwise it would have been an even better contract.

I'm starting to get a feeling we will see Nylander stay and Marner be dealt.

Marner has a no movement I believe.

That's the beauty though....They banked on his potential.

Who was the GM at the time. Lamoriello or Dubas?

You missed the point.
Nylander gets tagged with all these mysterious hate.
Trying to figure out why Nylander is tagged with being inconsistent.
Matthews doesn't score every game. Doesn't mean he's inconsistent.
It's not a shot at Matthews. He's playing great but he doesn't score every game.
That's my point.

Wasn't even a shot at Marner either with his zero goals in the playoffs.
Another one is Nylander is only performing because of contract year.
Well check out his playoff performances for at least the last 3 years.

Another is he gets knocked down easily. This was the most ludicrous one.
Or that he doesn't go to the front of the net.
It seems to me that anyone who criticizes Willy is a “hater” . I’m sure I’m another one of those in your eyes.

”Mysterious hate” ? It’s mysterious to you only because you just turn a blind eye to his shot comings. In your mind you’re just looping all the high lite plays he makes but his half ass efforts, missing checks and selfish plays “mysteriously disappear” from your memory.

Sure Matthews and Marner have had bad games, but unlike Nylander, at least their effort’s are there the majority of time. I’ve always said Nylander has just as much if not more pure offensive talent but it’s the lack of effort, more so in years prior to this season, is holding him back from becoming a great player. So far this season he’s proving how great he can be with consistent great efforts.

I’ve heard your argument that it was because of his development and not his contract year that he’s playing great. Such a mysterious coincidence that he waited till his contract year to blossom but perhaps we can revisit this debate a few years after he gets his next big contract.

I don’t hate Willy the person, in fact I think he’s a good guy from what I can gather from the print and tv media. The fact that he takes the subway to work hints that he is maybe a down to earth kind of guy. I praise him when I see good effort and don’t think that I have a hate on Swedes. In fact Salming is my all time favourite Leaf. If you’re old enough to have watched him play you’d know what “effort, heart and grit” mean.

Stays this way?
He's been playing great for a few years already.

Matthews went from 60 goals to 40 goals was that hunkie dory?
Before you go off thinking I"m comparing Matthews and Nylander again my point is haters will find things to hate about Nylander regardless of what he does.
Is not getting a point next game enough to qualify for retracting the hunkie dory status?

... and speaking of your point on the media every media now is raving about Nylander so what gives? The haters are still grasping at air, what was, and what ifs.
Nylander stinks.

Toronto
Leafs 2021 Playoffs vs Montreal
Nylander 5 goals 3 assists 8pts in 7 games
Matthews 1 goal 4 assists for 5 pts in 7 games
Marner 0 goals 4 assists for 4 pts in 7 games
Yet Nylander gets tagged with being the inconsistent one.
He was already doing this in 2021. We're soon into 2024.
He didn't just come out of nowhere.

Nylander 2022 playoffs had 3 goals 4 assists for 7 pts in 7 games.
So it's not even a one off.
It's impressive seeing him grow and mature right in front of our eyes.

Physically, mentally, maturity, understanding the game and reading the plays earlier, more grit and he's a rock in terms of his attitude. Never gets too high and is even keel during slower times.

TRADE HIM NOW WHEN HIS VALUE IS HIGHEST.

But contentious. Very many people thought it was too much. Based on the last season and a quarter the Jays are getting full value.

BYW, congrats to "The King" getting in the HOF.

Would be very hard to do with a M-NTC. Nylander won't agree to being traded. If anything Nylander's best move would be to play out the season and test free agency.

Nylander only has a modified 10 team no trade clause, regardless, I think you might have miss a typical Shack sarcasm.

I got the sarcasm. I forgot to mention that teams would worry about accepting a trade with a player whose contract is expiring and is a UFA.

Ok hate is too strong a word and not apt for most but I really don't know what word to use to describe all these negative opinions about Nylander. He's playing probably the best he could possibly play and yet the "strong dislikers" all they're looking for is negatives to throw at him. Hence grasping at air, what was, and what ifs. You don't hear any of the media spew out any negatives so it can't be that excuse anymore. What gives?

There's always the trade and sign like Treliving did with Tkachuk but he got shafted in that deal so there's that.
I really think he'll be a Leaf next year and beyond. Leafs obviously want him and he certainly loves playing in Toronto.
Especially for all the fans who think he sucks. I say they'll find the money somewhere and wait it out one more year until the Tavares contract ends.

Who's been negative about Nylander?
He's playing better, people don't criticize now, that's not enough for you?
You just gush over this guy, jamming him down everyone's throats, you have from Day 1.
Gets a bit much.
I think smuddan got it pretty good.

He was the definition of a warrior. A Viking.

He'd have won more awards but he played in the era of Orr, Potvin and Robinson. Also Savard, Park and Lapointe. Think of those 6 all playing at the same time.
