Which is why "civilian casualties" is not the definition of a war crime.

My complaint with you isn't that you suggest it will be impossible for Israel fight this war and cause no civilian casualties.
My complaint with you is that you say Israel should commit war crimes and in fact, because it is Hamas, they shouldn't even count as war crimes, really.

So you reject the entire concept of international law in war, then?
Bucha wasn't a war crime, for instance?
And you are misinterpreting what I said. Its that simple. And being nit picky on top of that. Which is boring.

No, Hamas in 2007 said they'd accept the two state deal.
The actual stance is that in return for all Palestinian demands being met, Hamas would be willing to accept a temporary cessions of their terrorism.

I find it amazing that someone who says they oppose authoritarianism and religious extremism is so willing to accept Hamas talking points. I'm sure you'll soon be echoing Meshal's clams that their attack on the 7th wasn't targeting civilians.

Meanwhile Israel wiped Palestine off the map and you think its fine.
You new catch line is stupid. Palestine never existed as an Arab state so hasn't been wiped off the map (and it won't until there's a negotiated peace). The closest you can come is saying that Jordan (and a much lesser extent Egypt) wiped the proposed Palestinian state off the may when they invaded and annexed it.

Butler is a progressive in name only. His views are consistently aligned with the Far Right.
Universal healthcare, election finance reform, term limits, further examination of UBI, curtailing of overpriced drugs, legalization of mushrooms.....

Thats just a starter pack. That's far right?

I completely agree. I don't know how Israel can defend itself from Hamas without civilian casualties but it is wrong to say they shouldn't try to minimize the harm to civilians.

What are the Palestinians hoping will happen from here?
Sadly Palestinian leadership, especially from religious totalitarians like Hamas, has been trying to convince their people that attacks on Israel will somehow result in Jews leaving.

Hamas millionaire Meshal's latest statements from Qatar make it clear he's willing to accept as much death and destruction as needed so that he can maintain his power and wealth.

I am not.
You said that there couldn't be war crimes against Hamas because it isn't a signatory of the Geneva conventions.
You said there should be no quarter given.

That you want to backpedal now and say you don't think Israel should commit war crimes, fine.
That you want to pretend what you really meant was that it would be unfair to accuse Israel of war crimes for things that aren't, then fine.

Saw this on twitter. Makes the most sense IMO.
You will have some civilian loss of life, but this way its kept to a minimum

Hamas has a history of forcing civilians to stay and stealing aid supplies for their own needs so sadly the Hamas will be the last people to be hungry. Israel is willing to send in troops and suffer the deaths because it is a more rights respecting and effective way to shut down Hamas.

Of course many people in Gaza, the West bank, and around the world see Hamas as heroes for their Oct. 7 slaughter so even killing off all their leadership will only be a temporary victory.

If Butler was simply saying "Israel shouldn't even try to minimize civilian casualties" that would be bad enough, but wouldn't have caught my eye.
He was saying that committing war crimes was the right and proper way to win the war and it is Hamas's fault.

He can pretend now that it isn't what he meant, but that's what caught my eye.

Like I said, I responded to that because I didn't expect it from him. I thought he hadn't gone that far down the pipeline yet.

(There are others here who are spouting appalling nonsense on both sides which I am not surprised by and see little reason to comment on.)

Totally. Omar is a true anti-semite!!
Maybe she is…maybe not?

I don’t think there is anything that is anti-Semitic in this post, tho.

Omar states that Hamas is portrayed differently in the media than nations such as Israel, England, etc. That is undoubtedly true- everyone challenges Hamas’ legitimacy while not holding other nations to a similar standard.

I think she makes her point in a smug, condescending way that ignores the obvious differences between Hamas vs western governments but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t some truth to what she says.

If you can blame Palestinians for having kids as irresponsible in support of Israel bombing them, how can you defend Universal health care and lower drug prices from others saying that it is their fault for being irresponsible for not buying health insurance and not taking care of their health?

Yes, because Hamas HAS CHOSEN to engage this way and force Israel to do the same. Its that simple. This is a war about survival. Not oil, or communism vs capitalism. Survival. Israel is doing what it has to do to survive.

So no, there is no backpetaling. Just you in your recliner, safe at home, being judgemental when you are clueless.
